I'm going to help a friend do the 50hr service MX5400-HST and looks like going to need about 12gal. Beside Kubota oil, since tractor supply is close are any of their gear oil meet or exceed the Kubota spec? In my area dealer wants $264 whereas TSC is just over $100.

thanks
I'm most all cases the fluid being drained still has plenty of life left but the main reason is flushing out the breaking in loose metal flakes floating around or settled in filters ,in the bottom of the trans etc., When doing your own service the most important thing is cleaning the mesh screen and cleaning all the metal flakes out of that. If the screen stops up gonna be headache.

On your friend's new Kubota tractor (50 hrs.), I would not even think about anything other than Kubota SUDT-2.
The tractor is obviously still under warranty.
If there should be a warranty problem, when Kubota discovers that TSC low bidder brand oil was used, it will be curtains for that warranty.
False economy!
In the grand scheme of things, Kubota SUDT-2 can be very cheap!
what they gonna do when there is a warranty issue and they find an oil other than kubota ? There are many tractors running around with cross oils in their system. When you borrow /rent a grapple, or another piece of equipment that connects to your tractor hydraulics, your hyd oil is now contaminated with other hyd oils of who knows what

Don't change the hydraulic oil @ 50 hours. It's a supreme waste of $$$. Over 26 years experience at three dealers selling CaseIH, New Holland, Kubota and Mahindra. Dealerships have been around since 1963, 1970 and 2010. Not a single recommendation or work order for a hydraulic oil change at 50 hours except in rare instances with obvious contamination.

After my experience yesterday I would agree with you Rick. Bought a low hour (28) BX2380 last July. Changed fluids yesterday at 68 hours. Damned if I could tell the difference between the new UDT 2 and the oil that I removed.
But what's done is done. Engine oil/filter changed along with hydraulic fluid and filter. A check of the strainer showed basically nothing on it.
And FWIW to those interested in changing these fluids, I found the UDT 2 in boxes of 3 gallons and a BX filter kit at Coleman Equipment online for about the best price.

they likely would try to avoid your warranty but long as you can show the proper requirement fluid, filters, etc., Was used they will in most cases be ok, but there's the few you'd have to sue or threaten to ,long as they know you know the law on those things everyone will have a better relationship. I suspect not much can be done renting and swapping fluids.

Thing is. Most people that use their tractors, either borrow, or remt equipment that hooks to their tractor's hyd system. At that point, your hyd oil is contaminated. So, unless you purchase every item you connect to your system. you will most likely 9at some point) contaminate your hyd oil . Or, you change your hyd oil each time you use others equipment.

Having sad that,
Anyone can deny any warranty claim for any reason. You would have to hire a lawyer and sue to have repairs made.
I once owned a new Dodge Ram 1500 (1995 mod.) 3 year, 36 mo. bumper to bumper warranty.
About 1.5 years the dash cracked. I returned to the dealer for replacement. The dealer denied the claim saying I must have had the dash out and cracked it, as they had never seen a dash crack on it's own.
I requested an appeal from a factory rep. Two days later, I met with the factory rep at the same dealership. I believe the person that denied my claim and the factory rep have their game plan together, as the factory rep told me the exact same thing.

How many have owned a dodge truck from 75-97 ? era that the dash didn't just crack on it's own ? Yeah, I know, almost (if not) every one of them.

So, any company can offer any warranty they want. Stand behind said warranty is a different story !

I had a '97 Ram whose driver rear window (push out wing type) shattered going over some RR tracks. They were skeptical, but replaced it.

Yep, your last statement sums it all up "So any company can offer any warranty they want. Stand behind said warranty is a different story".

That is a GREAT deal!
I bought two 5 gal. buckets in March on a promotion, and they were $99 each.

I'll throw in here.

I tried another oil to save some money. Got a big snow storm followed by temps in the teens. FEL was so weak and sluggish it took me forever to clear the snow. BH seems down on curling power and slower swing, even when warm out.

Went back to Kubota fluid, huge improvement.
