Just bought a bush hog, what to look for??

Wife just texted me and she bought a bush hog off someone at her work

All I know is it is a 6 ft and worked when parked last year, so what to look for?

good splines on pto?

gearbox lubricated?

no hardened bolts in shear holes?

good bearings?

no major cracks?

Anything else?

Oh, boy! This should be fun to see what you get! Sounds like you have the bases covered on what to check. But God only knows what you are getting in the way of a cutter. Might be the bargain of the century, or might be a "pile". Guess time will tell, keep us posted..

How bent up is 3 point hitch mounts (i.e. how level when mowing)

Any sheet metal bent (i.e. can blades turn fully without striking edge.) Actually, it's optional checking this, you'll know VERY quickly when you spin it up. (BANG! BANG! BANG!)

Major gouges on blades that require grounding and/or cracks that require replacement?

Can blades rotate/fold back freely at their connection on the stump jumper?

Are blades bent? (i.e. are blades at the same relative height?)

it was $200, upon seeing it this weekend, it is one of her techs fathers bush hog

they bought a tractor and it came with this, and they do not use it because they also have a belly mower?

I will add pictures once I take some

So far I have gotten some good sdeals on stuff, mainly if you have cash a blank bill of sale and trailer...you can get stuff cheaper
