So over the weekend i picked up a few more items at an estate auction. One piece i've been searching for many years to find a 1965 Ford 510 hay crimper/Conditioner. It was in decent shape well worth the $40 i gave. Also bought a nearly perfect Ford 501 Sickle mower had all the items that normally are missing and had a few new parts to boot for $160 dollars. But after tearing the crimper down and getting everything loose and and turning good there was a small dent in the PTO shaft mid pipe (pipe between the PTO end and the gear box) and my tractor kinda ripped the shaft in to at idle maybe my 100hp tractor was a little much for a damaged piece but i ordered a new pipe to weld it all back up. Gonna go ahead and get it all straightened up and painted good both the 501 and 510 will post pic's. Here they are as is and got my decals on my Ford 309 really turned out good!!! enjoy

Your restore's look great man! I just bought a good working 501 today, with three extra (complete) blades for $200. I'd say ya did good. Mines the 6' though. Looks like you might have the 7'. Now I just need to modify my left stabilizer arm to work on my newer tractor, so I can lift up the bar.

Have fun with the new toys, and keep posting the pics of your work!

I have a lot of hours on the seat of one of these transplanters when I was growing up on our hobby farm. Brings back memories

Got my Ford 510 Hay Crimper in the shop and got the new mid-pipe on. Got it welded up, it took awhile to cut the old one out and grind down the weld but, the new pipe is stronger. Also got the old froze stiff chain off and got it all in primer it turns with a finger all the way through. Hope to paint it and get some new tires on this week or next. heres a pic of it apart and the pipe in no primer pic yet sorry.

Guess you don't know about phasing U Joints: Proper U-Joint Installation TipsBehling Racing Equipment

It may not be a problem since your shaft is pretty straight and doesn't move up and down and you can spin it by hand.

Turn it slowly and see if you feel a slight binding in the same places during one revolution.
