I had a Granada with I think a straight 6 in it.

They only came with the Cologne V6. My dad had one with the base model 2.3 V6 but it didnt pull ****. 80kmh in 3rd with a cattle trailer, then it dropped to 60 when you shifted to 4th.

Other versions were 2.6 and 2.8 which still had only four exhaust ports, because they were designed to fit in the same engine bay as the Taunus V4... The 2.9 V6 used in the Scorpio from 1985 onward, had six exhaust ports and fuel injecion and finally gave 150hp from this displacement.

Ugly ass car, but it got sort of decent mpg and had really cold a/c.

These archaic V6 engines werent exactly known for their fuel efficiency here... the later 2.3 16V four cylinder had the same horsepoer but used significantly less fuel

I traded it in on a truck a few years later. A 21 year old doesn't drive a grandma looking 4 door ugly sedan.

Just straight pipe it, like my oldest brothers friend did in the 90s... you could hear him come from the next town, with the stainless steel tubes he purloined from when the milk processing plant was redone... it had that typical Grenada bark, from the four exhaust port V6...

I had a Granada with I think a straight 6 in it. We burned up the transmission in it towing a 14' Sears Gamefisher. My dad had some heavy duty transmission with a shift kit put in it. That thing was bulletproof after that. You could feel it shift. Ugly ass car, but it got sort of decent mpg and had really cold a/c. I traded it in on a truck a few years later. A 21 year old doesn't drive a grandma looking 4 door ugly sedan.

Oh wait... US Granada or Euro Granada ?

Ford got into the siamesed exhaust ports on the Cologne V6 because the engine bay was developed for a V4... so no way a V8 would fit in the engine bay of the Euro Granada...

Traded to a 1985 Mercury Cougar. 3.0l V6, then traded that to 1989 Mercury Cougar with same engine. Both extremely reliable cars. Sometimes regret getting rid of 1989. Put over 120K on it, never in shop.

Yeah, ive heard the stories of how bad cars were, back then... French and Italian cars were crushed at only 8 years old because they rusted so bad. Odometers only went to 99.999km on small family cars. 120k miles, or 190.000km was worth a celebration...

Only my first car, a 1991 Volvo 440 had 200.000km when bought. My previous car i had to give up on at 560.000km because a crank position sensor was no longer available. Currently at 482.000km with my current V70

In 1981 & 1982, the Chevy Luv (Isuzu) had an available diesel engine.

I had a Toyota pickup around that vintage with a diesel engine. Non turbo, I had to pick and choose my "battles" carefully when getting on a four lane. After I sold it, I would see it drive by where I was living for many years.

It did get 36-40mpg.
