More work this weekend...

The construction adhesive fixed most of the squeaks. There are a few smaller squeaks that still make some noise when stepped on just right. I think I may have glued the wrong spot or something. The big squeaks are solid and quiet, though.

I put in the cross blocking. I think it made a little difference, but not much. I'm probably just being very picky. We visited some friends this weekend with a brand new house, and I felt the same kind of give in their house when someone walked past.

The insulation is up!! That made an immediate difference in the feel of the whole house. The warmth is more uniform. The floor upstairs isn't as cold, and the downstairs is warmer. It made a HUGE difference in the sound. Downstairs is so quiet now that it's almost creepy.

Here are a few pics...

The first two are places where the building inspector asked that I use some angle iron to re-inforce the wood that was already there. The third is a shot of the blown in insulation. The fourth picture is of the tub. The insulation guy talked me into letting him net around the tub and fill the whole cavity under the tub. It's supposed to help keep the bath water warmer longer.

third pic; what is the fabric like stuff on the walls/ceiling? With the blobs of adhesive? Is that to keep blown in insulation in place?
I think angle is a pet peeve of your inspector- seems like overkill to me, and more expensive than using wood to beef up various 'weak' points.
Speaking of squeaks - I saw an article on break away screws used to secure stair treads with carpet already installed. There are products on the market designed to fix squeaks after the trades have done their initial lame construction work.

That's the netting used to contain the blown insulation. The blobs are the holes where they put the hose in to blow the stuff in. It just hangs out like that until the sheetrock goes up. Actually the blobs are getting smaller as stuff gradually falls off and gets tracked all through the house. Needless to say we're excited for sheetrock.

He does seem to like angle. My problem is that my ceiling is low anyway (7 ft.). I can't afford the head room I'd sacrifice to a 2X6 like what should be there. I'm just glad that he's letting me use angle and keep the door frame as high as possible.

I have a genuine old school hardwood floor above this area. Any kind of screw that I've seen would screw up the look of the hardwood floor (no pun intended).

Come on now. A little putty followed by a devorce and you'll never even notice the holes after you're thrown out of the house. :D:laughing:

I laughed so hard at that one that I almost had to explain to my wife in the other room why I was laughing. (Never mind. She heard, and I had to explain to her anyway.)

Good one! Thanks.

Tomorrow is another big, busy day. I'm doing all the little finishing stuff getting ready for sheetrock. After the sheetrock goes in, I'm re-adjusting focus. I'm going to take some time, clean the garage, build a base for my table saw, and do what other stuff I need to get ready for building cabinets. I'm sure I'll do little stuff here and there in the house in the mean time.

Always glad to help put things into perspective. Err... I mean... put a little humor into the subject.:D

We blew foam insulation under and around the tub. The 1st time we took a shower, we noticed a difference (better) from our old house. Warms up quicker, doesn't feel cold.

Congrats on a real milestone- insulation/sheetrock. Literally and figuratively, all your problems are behind you. And as for any new problems, well, that's left to the poor trim carpenter who's job it is to take sum of all errors from everyone else and make it look great .

That's me. I'm the trim guy, too.

Brief update:

We have sheetrock done now as well as tape and texture. The next step is to have the floor coated and stained. We're doing a stained concrete floor. All the pictures of it look nice, and it's supposed to be very durable.

I think we'll have a working bathroom downstairs within a few weeks. After that I'll start work on the cabinets for the hair salon part of the remodel.

Here are some pictures of the sheetrock put up before the texture was done...
