it seems like just yesterday, when i would back up to the brush hog to hook it up to the tractor, if i wasn't exactly where i needed to be, i'd just scoot the hog over, by hand and hook it up: well, i can't seem to do that anymore: so i am looking for the best alternative: i know there are a lot of post on here about quick connects: but i would like to hear from those of you that have and are using them. will they solve the problem or is it still a matter of getting on and off the tractor to get an implement hooked up?

heehaw,
Pat's Easy Change System has worked wonders for me. Yep, You still have get off and hook up the top link. But you have to hook up the PTO shaft anyway. Now if you're just hooking up a blade or some such that is not PTO powered, some of the quick hitches I've seen look great too.

I added top and tilt to my 3PH and then installed the Freedom Hitch aka FH. We're talking easy now, just back up close, TNT makes final adjustments & pick it up. Connect DS and mow... Works great on my chipper, landscape rake, bush hog, finish mower, and box blade. Fertilizer spreader sit to low so if you use FH on it you will need to add legs to spreader or have platform to set it on.

One bad application would be the scrape blade. It puts too much stress on the FH and will bend the female frame assy. if you catch a rock or root. When using the scarpe blade you need to hook direct to 3PH. Which is OK for me because it's a pc. I use only 1-2 times per year.

Keep in mind I was using the CAT 1 Freedom Hitch behind my L5030 which is on the high end of CAT 1 tractors and will also handle CAT II implements.

Other than that the Freedom hitch is great....

I park mine on an old tire/wheel combination. A couple of pointers to tell me when the stump jumper is centered then just set her down. When hookin' up just rotate the hog till the lift arms are lined up. Sure is a lot easier to git that last quarter inch. After all the links are connected, hook up the pto and away we go. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use the Freedom Hitch and love it. Off center or on a slope, no problem. A little more spendy than Pats but cheaper than some of the others I priced.

I built a shed with a lean-to for my implements. I put a short length of rope with eye splices at each end over the beam supporting the roof. I attach a come-along to the eye splices and the top link attachment of the brush hog. With a couple of cranks on the come-along, the brush hog floats. It makes it incredibly quick and painless to attach.

Before building the shed, I used a 5' length of 2x4 to persuade the brush hog into position.

I only have 2 3PH implements right now; a rotary cutter and a disk harrow. I put a pair of removable casters on the skids of the rotary cutter, so it's very easy to roll into position. I made a pallet with casters for the disk harrow. Both roll right up to the 3PH and hook up easily, without any adjustments. Yesterday it took me ~15 minutes to take off the rotary cutter and hook up the disk harrow.
