A person's trade or vocation has nothing to do with their intelligence, their ability to reason or comprehend the gist of what they can glean from the information that is available to the public...their opinions and observations are as viable as any other whose expertise is not in the exact field of discussion...And even then those expert opinions and observations are subjective based on the values of the available data...

This is an Internet tractor forum...lots of different backgrounds and areas of experience...it's not necessarily a nest of uneducated rubes...
IMO trying to pontificate opinions and observations based on laboratory experience, incomplete and inexact science "a bad idea"...!
I noticed something interesting as my education progressed. The more I learned, I also realized the less I knew.

I came out of undergrad, thinking, "I'm an engineer. I can do/design anything mechanical."

I got into graduate school and realized there was SO much within the realm of mechanical engineering that I did not know, or understand. I'm continually striving to learn (that's what research is all about) and continually amazed that the deeper you delve into something, the more nuanced it becomes.

In other words, pontificating on a tractor forum about opinions and what one thinks. Fine.

Making health based decisions based on those same opinions, or unvetted, poorly supported medical advice because "I read it on the internet." Not wise.

Yes, everyone can think for themselves, but a wise person recognizes when they are out of their depth, and should defer to someone with more knowledge in the field than them.

LoL...Who makes "health based decisions" on what they read on an Internet forum...??...so you are trying to practice medicine (offer medical advice) based on some inexact science you are privy to?...Too funny...!

And FYI...regardless of all the studies and all the knowledge gained from said studies...ALL the findings and analysis is still just (often subjective) opinion and conjecture...it's "educated guessing"...nothing more...!

yes. Reminds me of the “university research” that said eggs cause bad cholesterol and need to limit consumption. Then a few years later said that eggs dont hurt. Who do you believe. And how about the research that pushed butter substitutes inplace of butter. Now that had changed. Hard to believe research. Sorry

Nothing like stupid luck to be successful!

Herd Immunity Remains the Best Bet | al fin next level

As good a Result with no modeling involved. Who would figure?

On a bright note:

The wife and I picked over 100# (scaled) of luscious, full peaches (Reliance variety) off just one of our four trees over the past two days. There are still 25# ripening on the tree yet to harvest. The other trees will come in later.

I have noticed when I wear my cloth mask in Wal Mart (about the only place I congregate among groups of people) and the usual suspects who wear excessive amounts of perfume it seems to me that when I walk into the "cloud" that even after leaving their presence, the aroma lingers in the mask. It seems that some of the aerosol particles get stuck in the fibers of the mask and I get to smell them for an extra long time.

I noticed the same at pizza curbside service the other day. The pizza smelled great and just kept on smelling great. I think, as with any fabric, a smell gets into it and doesn't go away fast.

Is it just me? I find black masks somehow disturbing.

That was a very good article. Pretty much what I have been saying lately. The sooner a percentage of the population get it the better off we are all going to be. The more draconian the lockdown the worse it is all going to be for all of us.

I've been wearing my mask when mowing the lawn lately because it's so dry, and, there's also something messing with my allergies. It sure makes a difference with my nose afterwards.

I'm over it now, but I suffered terribly a month or so back. Worst part is, you never know what is effecting one. I think, oh good, I can breathe, and five minutes later, for no apparent reason, I cant'. I think MUCH of it is in my head!

Funny, back a month or so ago, I was wearing a mask to cut grass and found it necessary to tell a neighbor that it WASN'T for the Covid Boogeyman. Lest I ever got confused for one of the sheep!

FYI...every time you exhale through a mask you are exhaling moisture droplets...just huff on a piece of glass if you don't believe me...

Although I believe more what the real scientists say than what is said by a casual observer, I decided to try out your very unscientific test for myself to see how accurate or inaccurate you might be.

For this "scientific experiment", I went into my 70 degree bathroom, a room where the humidity is usually the highest, put my mouth exactly 3 inches from the mirror and huffed. The mirror fogged up in an area about 6 inches in diameter. Then I put on my kn95 mask and proceeded to do the exact same thing. Guess what? The mirror did not fog up at all, completely disproving your statement that masks do not help prevent aerosol disbursement.

Not the greatest scientific experiment in the world but one that proves you are wrong about your facts and makes it much easier for me to believe the real scientists instead of those who just make up their own facts.

When breathing out through a "non-purge valve" fitted N95 mask, most of the "leakage " takes plase at the edges. that is, the interface between mask and wearer. That is why, people who sport significant facial hair can NOT BE PROPERLY FITTED for N95 PPE.

Please, Don't be an idiot scientist.

I love numbers like these!

You know the average longevity for an American male is about 69 years.
The average age of mortality for this CCP flu is a bit over 80 years. I'm thinking I might try to catch this Wuhan pneumonia and increase my odds.

But not due to xenophobia?

Strangers coming to do you harm.....

Isn't it strange how an unknown foe can wreck havoc even greater than a grain of dust or a speck of pollen.

In 1896, Sir William Osler1 said, “Humanity has but three great enemies: fever, famine, and war; of these by far the greatest, by far the most terrible, is fever.”

I like that! I’ll use it on my hardheaded buddy the next time he starts grumbling about masks.

This being a tractor forum, let’s see a show of hands from those that are willing to bypass or eliminate the various filters on their tractor for a few hundred hours. That would really show up the experts who designed the engines, transmissions, etc. what do they know.

This may be the best reply so far in favor of wearing a mask on a tractor forum.
