Output power mainly, and how they obtain it; 38.2KW for the 495T1 and 44.1KW for the 495T, neither of which computes to 55hp. Since they don't use the same model governor. It makes a difference to how much the output can be tweaked - and in which direction.

Hey Greg,
I went up to visit my tractor this weekend and took this picture of the engine label on my 554. It is stamped saying the engine is a 495T2. Do you know anything about that?

Also, I have not heard anything further from (schmalts) about which way to adjust the injection pump to add horsepower so I have not tried that. Do you know anything about that, as well?

Does anyone have any experience with adjusting the rack yet?

I'm sorry, but I have nothing on that variant. The 495T puts out 44.1KW @ 2500 rpm with a T-300-1250Z governor. The 495T1 puts out 38.2 @ 2400 rpm with a T-300-1200Z governor.

Unless they detuned the 495T, your T2 variant with 40.5KW @ 2300 may have yet a different governor. What is the PTO rpm range marked on your tach?

Here is another picture of another label saying it is 55HP. I'm home and will have to look at the PTO rpm range before answering that question.

Oh, and in regards to the rack adjustment...is that a for real thing, you think?

I don't recall saying you didn't have 55hp. But just for the record, 40.5KW is actually 54.3hp. Pretty sure I said my book only listed the 495T and 495T1, and neither of THEM had a 55hp rating (59.14 for the 495T and 51.23 for the 495T1)

Your -T2 could be the -T model with the throttle stop backed off by 200 rpm. The PTO rpms might be an indicator, but to be sure you'd have to know the governor model.

Adjusting the throttle stop shouldn't pose any problems, but I'd think seriously before fooling with the governor itself - especially while you're still under warranty.

You are correct in that recollection...and I don't recall saying that I don't have 55HP either. I put the photo in to provide additional information to help you in the identifying process.

I was not aware of the T2 engine and it's not listed in my spec manuals. The manual lists the 495T rated @ 2500 rpm, 495T1 rated @ 2400 rpm. Does your book also list a 495C and 495D rated at lower rpm's, 2000 and 1500 respectively with different Governor models?

I did notice on the engine label (1st photo) the rpm rating is 2300, backed of by 200 r's as you suggested. This leads me to think that the governor model might be the same as one of the two...making power at different rpm ratings.

Assuming this to be the case, are you saying then, I could adjust the throttle stop a hundred rpm or so with no problems? If so, I'll try that before screwing with the rack on the injector. One more thing, the wire that runs from the rack adjustment cap also runs through the throttle stop. So I would have to cut that anyway to adjust it.

I'll be going up again this weekend and see what the governor model is, whether it's a T-300-1250Z as on the 495T or T-300-1200Z as on the 495T1.
