That 1" to 3" we were supposed to get Monday night turned into "have to plow the driveway again" Got a little too close to the ditch and slid off the road. In the process of getting pulled out, the front tire came off the rim and filled with ice/mud/snow, what a mess... Tire store in Murray looked at it and said "clean it up and we will fix it". 17 degrees now so will have to wait for the warmer weather that is supposed to be here this weekend to get the garden hose out.

AH - H*LL, be brave. Fill the bath tub half full of hot water - put a good strainer in the tub drain - wash the tire in the tub.

If you are married - forget I said a word

I did that with some boots that had mud and cow poop on them in my oldest daughter's bathroom. She was mad at me for a month.

Ohhh..... you didn't did you?? And you're still breathing?

I have cleaned toolboxes and storage bins in our dishwasher.... When my wife wasn't home. They only had sawdust and dirt in them, nothing oily.

In my work years ago I had to carry a red crayon that would melt off a tire in a mold. Those crayons also melted in a clothes dryer and covered the dryer and everything in it in red. The first time I left one in my pocket and my wife washed and dried it.....she cleaned it out. The second time........I cleaned it out. There never was a third time.

I got a scare just shortly after midnight. I had a sense that something was wrong and was having trouble breathing.

As I got awake I realized the we had lost the grid power source because there was no light coming in from the security lite outside so I pulled off my CPAP mask and was fine. About the same time the power came back on then I wondered how long had it been off and at 5F degrees did any water lines freeze.

Thankfully the power had only been off 5-6 minutes so I ran enough water to make the pump kick on and read for about an hour to make sure the grid was stable then slept until about 8 am. Now at 11:15am we are at a recent record temp of 30F so maybe our winter storm remaining layers of ice, sleet and snow will be washed away in rain on Monday.

Actually looking at the rest of Jan and all of Feb extended forecast maps our sub freezing days may be over and not too many sub freezing nights with those being in the 20's.

Murray State University has been close so far all of this week. Main roads are getting OK but county roads and city streets are packed snow and sleet still. What will help this mess leave is our ground was not frozen due to 2 days of rain and low 60F temps before the freezing rain, sleet and two snows came. We have 3-4 non freezing nights coming up so the stuff can melt 24/7 for a few days.

I am ready for spring.

Brother - you in Kentucky are freezing and up here in Ea WA its just like spring. Its sure great, for this time of year, but I got a feeling the hammer is going to drop one of these days. We've seen very little winter so far. All the snow has melted, the ground is beginning to thaw, the ice is melting off my lake and its raining again today.

This just can't be all of our winter. If we don't get more snow our late summer/early fall is going to be a dry, H*LL on earth.

We got HAMMERED yesterday.

First forecasts would had us getting a trace of snow. Then 1-2 inches. About a day in advance of the storm, the forecast was 2-4 inches of snow. The night before the storm hit the estimate was for as much as 8 inches!

The storm was to hit about 2:00am in the morning but it slowed down and got stronger. At 0800 there was a bit of freezing rain and sleet but five minutes later it was snowing hard with about one inch an hour. Around noon we had friends saying they lost power. We lost power about 2:30pm. :( Friends were supposed to have power back at 5:00pm but we did not get power back. Our power came back today. Glad it is back but it stunk loosing power. Had to start the fire, long story, and started melting snow to have water to flush toilets. REALLY worried about the well house freezing but it is well insulated and it seems ok. Need to go check but got busy at work. :(

We could hear booms which I think were transformers. After dark we could see flashes of power arcs towards town. Guess it was trees on the power lines. Pretty in a scary sorta a way.

Wood stove kept us warm but I got up every three hours to put in wood and checked to make sure the little water we had in the plumbing was still water. Had fun playing checkers and cards with the family but I would rather

We ended up with at least 8.5 inches of snow and friends said they got 12 inches. Most snow we have had here. Lost one branch from the snow load which was surprising. Both storms this month have had very, nice fluffy, light snow instead of the usual heavy, wet snow.

Ready for spring we are. :D:D:D

Later,
Dan

Ground is rotten under the snow and ice. I put a Shepard's hook in the ground this afternoon for a bird feeder and had to prop it to get it to stand. Slam it down to go thru the ice, then won't hold in the ground!!

A good lengthy power outage can be a good thing on occasion. If prepared, it will allow you to unplug, kick back and enjoy the ambience of candle light and the wood stove.

We had an 8 hour outage (longest in memory) and my well line froze, only because I was to lazy to fire up the little generator and plug in the heat tapes. Temp had warmed up to -8 during the heavy, wet snow. Wood stove kept us toasty, propane cook stove kept us fed. Had a kerosene lamp and candles for light and cellphones and a portable radio for weather updates and power line updates. Well stocked pantry is a Must. I enjoyed the peace and quiet.

Heat wave! Over night low of 38F.

Thankfully they took our freezing temps out of the forecast so it is just rain and more rain. Yesterday we ran up to Nashville, IN to pick up a Ford FEL Model 711 19-385 for our 1966 3000 diesel and the guy lived on top of a hill but the yard was rotten when he would get of the driveway when loading it using a boom pole on his 3000 gas burner. I did like the way we could talk and hear with the gas engine running. :)

For the rest of Feb only one night is forecast to be freezing and that is at 28F. Four freezing nights forecast for March but all four nights low is calling for 31F temp.

Spring is coming.

After the heathens (grandkids) left today I took my usual Sunday afternoon nap. Was woke up by my neighbor weedeating his 'monkey grass'.

Yep, first sign of spring. Mr. Bill out weedeating grass in 40 degree weather.

Guess I better do my tomorrow.

I'm in the Hudson Valley region of NY, about 45 minutes south of Albany. They're calling for a high of 72* on Wednesday. All of our snow is gone, getting to be mud season now.

I purchased a farm and spent all last winter out in the fields, pulling fence and working. This winter, including last fall, it has been so wet, that I haven't been able to get into/onto any part of my land since Mid November. There were a few days of solid freeze in which I could have been on it, however, I wasn't around during them. Otherwise, Kentucky has been one big sloppy mess.

I spoke to a local farmer about it just the other day. He laughed and said that I had been EXTREMELY LUCKY with the weather I had last winter. And I should not expect to get into the fields any earlier than 'Derby weekend' ie 1st week of May.

I purchased a new post driver, and it is a lawn ornament with a payment. I have 3 miles of posts to drive and I am sitting inside, looking at rain...
