That’s a tad? Around here it would shut down the schools probably.

We didn't get much snow, but we did get wind with it. I'm sure you know that makes for some nice drifts, mixed in with no snow at all. May have got 10" in 24 hours. Our seasonal average here is about 230 and we're close to that this year.

Photos taken today. Ya its spring here. :) The mud is a grooming machine passing through the water hole....

Trivia questions... In the 2nd photo, whats the round thing? In the last, why does the snow melt like that?

The second picture - a plumbers helper. Why are you making snow doughnuts? The last picture - a good reason to be careful crossing the creek on the "snow bridge". Lordy - Arlyn - I look at my Vantage weather readout - it's 65F right now - here.

I’d say the last one the water is warm and Heat rises up along the edge of the bridge and melts along that edge. I also thought plumbers helper on the other pics.

Close but noooooot quite. Here is a photo of a bridge with wide deck spacing in its deck and in it, you can see much melting has occurred above each of the boards gap. We subsequently reduced gaps in bridge decking to 1/4 an inch to help keep base* into the spring. As you state, the water has heat and in the spring, the creek volume increases along with the temperature which takes a toll on the bridges snow.. With wider spacing, we'd lose bridges base yet have plenty everywhere else on the trail. Close spacing helped with this very much.

On that note, creeks and the earth do not freeze over here.

*base is impacted snow the skiers use which lasts very long and into warm temps.

Here is a few we took today. These are actually taken 60 some miles south of us in the Ottawa NF at a Lake Ste Kathryn. Can anyone identify the tracks in the lowest photo? We think they are bobcat and they were made today. The 2nd one is our yard..

First thing popped into my mind, was wolverine, but i haven't seen them in many many years.

No remaining Wolverines are suppose to still be around here. They are quite the animal... A buddy of ours who tracks animals for the state said it was a Otter. Thanks cqaigy!

I've been deleting old photos from the HD and found a few rather good ones. Please let me know if you like them. We just quit skiing here.
