30" is a big snowfall. My difficulty in northern New England was a deep but light snow on a windy day. By the time you were done plowing, the wind filled everything in again and you had to start over. Often a third time the next day along with more snow.

Somewhere Arly mentioned his annual snowfall and it was a shocker. I'll bet he's seen it all.
I just looked in the paper and they already took the snow volumes out for the year. :( Going by memory, we were in the 240 range but up in the peninsula, some locations went over 300 mark. These are not far off from normal.

Arly, you have any snow left around your house maybe piled up from your snow blowing or plowing this winter? North side of house or from shovelling off the roof? Want to take a picture of it and post it and TBN members will guess the date it melts away? Jon

Jon, We still have lots of snow around and try getting you some pics today. We tried going for a walk in the woods yesterday and found more than what is conducive for walking.

This is our yard and we normally park our camper next to the trailer on its left. Of cosure this is snow I pushed back there but the more distant snow was not impacted.

Dang. Having that much snow pack must keep the ambient air temps pretty chilled out, too.

Ok snow, it's may now. Time to go. The plants need at least a few months of growing season to make food for the critters.

My guess is, that the last of the above pile will melt on Mother's Day. Whose next? Jon

The thing about a tall, all-winter plow pile, is that the weight of it during spring freeze/thaw cycles turns the bottom into pure ice, insulated by the snow above it. It's impressive to me how long some tall snow piles can hang on for in a shady spot atop frozen earth.

I'll split the difference and go May 22nd. High 60s coming next week in the Keewenaw.
