We have family and friends in the northern hills and heard you got snow there. Thanks for posting pictures of it. I meet my spouse in the Spearfish area and used to reside in Edgemont but that was long, long ago.

Thanks for the memories as I was born and raised about six miles south of Houghton. Lived there for 22 years.
The last snow that I remember was around July 4 on the north slope of a slag pile in Painsdale.

By "slag pile" you must mean poor rock piles? All the slag piles I'm familiar with are at the Quincy Smelter.. Thank you and everyone else for the the kind comments.. If you'd like to see more photos from our area, just follow our dogs blog..

Geez, Arlyn - I'm just hoping we won't get any more here. My grass is starting to green up nicely. Soon I will have to get my mower out, like Sigarms. Yes - your dog is playing "King of the hill" on top of a humungous snow pile - on top of a picnic table. I guess if you gotta have snow - it's best to have a whole lot.

Would you believe, it's starting to dry out around here. It doesn't take a whole lot of warmer weather and the SW winds to start turning things back to dust. Soon I will be complaining about all the pine pollen. The pine pollen turns EVERYTHING to a limey green for a couple weeks or so.

Geeze, those picts of your snow look great!

It kinda make me nostalgic for snow. Remember going out on to the porch, putting on the skis and the dog and i would be off for a few hours. He loved stepping on the tails of my skis and pitching me forward, real big joker, that one. I swear, for every mile i did, he's go five, looping back and forth across the track. One thing i don't miss, is the melt and dirty wet snow.

Yes, you are right. The ore from the Painsdale mine was hauled to the Freda Stamp Mill by train. The kids from Freda and Beacon Hill rode the train caboose to Painsdale to high school in the morning and back at night. Heh, it's been so many years.

My spouse has meet some of those kids* who took the school train from Freda. While at the Freida mill, we picked up a link used on the conveyor that moved waste sand, into the lake. I'll later post a photo of the link. When will you be back up to visit us???

My mother was one of those "kids". I no longer have close friends nor relatives in the area so not much incentive.
