if its turning at the crank shaft pulley its turning at the flywheel i have never seen one brake a crankshaft and the front pulley turns and the flywheel dont it will have to be a really clean brake i would put the starter back on and jump the soleniod a cross the two large prongs and see if it will start u dont even need the key on i believe that machine has a manual kill if i am thinking right i know a 580 b does

got it running! i was playing around with it, and replaced the positive terminal clamp. the old one fit kind of loose.

touched the starter, and it fired right up. i don't know why it failed when it did or why the engine stopped because of a faulty battery terminal, but i am so glad it did, because it saved me a rebuild.

I limped out of the woods where i was working, got it on a level area and shut it down. i have to degrease the entire front end and check all the fluids, and hopefully I can finish my project.

I'm a little late to answer but if I had been earlier I would have told you the engine is fine.

I had a Chevy van that my employees never checked the oil on AND IT LEAKED. They pulled up one day and it was knocking like a machine gun.

The mechanic said it was gone. I filled it up with oil, it knocked, then stopped and I ran that vehicle for another 100K miles.

I can go on and on about running vehicles with NO oil but it's not as bad as people tend to make it out.

Here this explains it better than I ever could. This engine had SAND in it and NO OIL.

You might want to change the oil filter a couple of times in case it scraped up any metal filings inside. I think you said it did run dry on oil at first right?
