Hello Dutch445,

I am pretty sure the OEM belts are made by Gates Rubber.
I just ticked me a lot when the JD $130.00 belt being new and the
snow caster being used three times for about 90 minutes of use
killed it.

I just wish they still made single stage snow casters as they are so simple.

It would be easy enough to install a right angle gear box driven by a small
belt coming off the drive belt from the vertical engine pulley to a small
propeller shaft and then to the chain drive for the auger.

The older horizontal engines were easier to use with the right angle gearbox
and small V belt to drive them and that dates me by about 52 years back but
as i mentioned the 12 H.P. I.H.C. Cub we had went through everything with
barely a grunt and just chains on a 22 degree driveway slope.

I am sending you a PM

13" or 14" of dense snow here. I approximated that today after snowblowing a path. It packed down some last evening when it warmed up, the news said my town was measured at 18". It was warm enough my daughter made a good sized snowman. Whatever my son didn't get plowed last night was like pushing through a boulder today. Hopefully this is the last big one. I was enjoying the spring like temps.

I did not realize it was that heavy, till I hand shoveled the walkway.

18" at Mt Sunapee, NH. Boston got 6 1/2" of super heavy, wet snow and temps briefly went above 32°. We got everything cleaned up, and temps went down to mid-teens last night. So everything is a popsicle.

I think our Ariens moves more snow, but our 9.5hp Honda track machine did a great job with this stuff. Full width passes at decent speed.

That sure is some slop!
i just picked up a 724 track honda that i can bring right up on my decks, it is amazing how well it
throws snow! and it walks right up the deck stairs, i'm too old to drag those big old 28" blowers up
backwards, with the chains chewing up my deck stairs. this little honda is amazing,,
just got in from snow duty, did the decks again (yesterday too) and both decks had drifts up over
the railings due to the wind swirling around the house... that little honda just walks thru it.

I'll grant you they are simpler, although not a whole lot, and work great if all you're clearing is a driveway and/or narrow parking area. But they just don't throw the snow as far as a 2-stage, and in many instances that is an important facet of using a blower in the first place.

Much cleaning off on tar than frozen ground any day.

I have a wheeled Ariens in Goshen, think I'm going to switch to an Ariens Pro Track there as I'm sick of machine-gunning gravel. Have the skids adjusted up quite a bit and still fire volleys.....

We originally purchased the Honda for [dirt and gravel] in NH, one of the reasons we swapped was the ability of the track machine to climb the steps on our front walk as now and again Boston gets a little snow.....2015.

We're down to a few snow patches in shaded areas, might swap the snowthrower and the motorcycle shed <-> garage.

I may need to see an eye doctor. Every time I look outside this morning I get a TON of white floaters! Not sure what's going on. :confused3:
