Rear Blade King Kutter vs Land Pride rear blade

Anyone have comments on a King Kutter rear blade vs. a Land Pride? After two winters of plowing snow with my FEL and box blade I figured I could break down and get a blade to make the job easier.

Priced them out and the KK blade is about $150 less than a Land Pride. Normally I'd buy the Land Pride just to give the business to my dealer, but this is kind of a lot when you are talking about $200 for the KK and $350 for the Land Pride.

Given the intended use I was thinking about going on the cheap here.

I own one of each, A 72" landpride & an 84" kingkutter.
Spent the money on the landpride & got it so it angles side to side.
Check them both out.
I found the LP to be a better and stronger blade.
Also check out the curveature or bend of the middle of the blade. The LP has more curve? and the KK is more flat. I dont no how else to put it.
I dont even use the king kutter blade. it was like $200.
But if you want to use is for dirtwork the LP is the way to go.
I think the curve make a difference in the cutting in dirt and also rolling of a material.
I would take the Landpride.

I'd recently posted on here asking about rear blades because I'd been using the same thing as you to clear snow, and it just doesn't work. Just when I'd figured that KK was junk, I found that they make a HD series rear blade that is a beast. However, it cost well over $1000.00. Guess what, Land Pride makes a HD blade the same size and just about the exact same weight, and, it also cost well over $1000.00.

My only point is that I don't think you can say Land Pride is necessarily better than KK, because they both make so many different grades of rear blades. After perhaps over researching it, I ended up with a Land Pride RB84, which is a "medium" duty 7' blade that angles and tilts. The only KK blades in stock around here were the $200 KK blades. Those blades are for very light duty. If you have a really small tractor, they will work for you. Otherwise, even with a mid sized CUT, if you catch something solid with the blade while clearing snow, well, there went your $200.00 down the drain. Both companies make a good rear blade. It just depends on what your use will be and what blade is locally available for you. I found that the weight of the blade was a fairly consistant way to measure it's relative strength.

If you do very much with a blade, you are money ahead to get a good one. If you don't you will wish you had for years to come, or you will trade it in on a better one later. I know this from experience. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

When I go to look at a blade, I usually look for a name brand. If you look at their mid-horsepower blades you will normally see a pretty well designed blade. That is not saying that a lesser know brand can't be a good blade, but if you look at a well know top brand in that hp range you will have a good example of a durable well made blade. Several of the better know brands use the same exact blade for their 40-75 horse range. The Hardee that I have can be had in at least 3 other brand names.

Here are the blades that I was speaking of. They are a few differences in the third arms attachments but are the same blade with that exception. The BH blade extends the tilt pin through the rear cover and has a few options add on to it.

Look at Midwest. Much heavier and nicer than the KK I looked at, and comparable to the overall quality of the Landpride I looked at. Delivered, it was a little more than the KK, and a bit less than the Landpride.

What I liked best about the Midwest is that it has tilt, swivel, and offset, all without tools. The KK had no offset, and the Landpride required wrenches to offset. Midwest has 4 different paint colors available - green, grey (to match your Kubota), blue, red. PM me if you want the name & number of the Midwest factory salesman that I purchased mine from. Shipping should be even less than it was for me, as their plant is closer to you in Illinois.

You know, I've been going to the web site for Midwest for the last couple years, and it still is incomplete and under constrution. For a company that seems to be trying to have Internet sales, you would think they would spend a little more time developing their web page.

DocHeb, funny you mentioned that about the Midwest site. I've noticed the same thing. I even called them since they are well within driving distance from me, but they didn't seem interested in selling me a rear blade. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif They really didn't even seem interested in talking wth me. Even though I'd heard that they made a decent blade, that was all I needed to scratch them off of my list.

Jerry I did look at a LandPride rear blade today. It had a hydraulic cylinder for angle from side to side seemed heavily made and had a parking foot so you didn't have to lift it to attach to your 3-point lift arms. I was impressed with the quality overall.

That group of blades are all well made no matter who's paints on them. The swing angle on the cylinder works great for dirt, but falls a little short for snow. When doing snow, I twist the blade as well as use the cylinder.

If you go with a King Kutter rear blade I recommend going with the "professional series" rear blade (7' profesional series blade around $415) vs the $200 light duty blade.
The Profesional series is much better built than the light duty, and can be offset.

DK35Vince, that is not KK's "professional series" or "heavy duty" 7' blade. That is their "medium" duty blade. Their 7' professional series blade weighs over 700 pounds and costs just under $1100.00 I know this well because I was the guy who mistakenly thought that all KK blades were junk because all I'd seen was their lightweight $200 blades. I was certainly wrong in thinking all KK blades were junk. Their heavy duty, or professional series blades are really tough. Unfortunately, you will definitely not get one for $415. After seeing one and their quality, I'd take 10 of the heavy duty ones at that price. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Having said that, their medium duty blade like you have definitely competes with all other medium duty blades I saw.

I would not recommend a KK read blade.

This broke within the warranty period and sent in the pictures to KK and they said I misused it.

I do have other KK implements, but never had any warranty issues and their parts department is pretty good.

I don't really think they are focusing at all on internet sales. They are focusing more on setting up a dealer network.

As to the comment regarding Midwest not being interested in selling a product to someone, I did not find that to be the case. I was unable to find a local dealer, and called Midwest directly to see if they could beat the delivered price of some of their dealers out on the east coast that were willing to sell to me. Midwest was more than willing to help out, and got my rear blade and rake to me sooner than it was promised. I'm getting ready to order the gauge wheels for the rake from Midwest, as I've found that I need them.

Anyway, I was simply making a recommendation based on my experience with the company and my satisfaction with the product, after having the Midwest products recommended to me and doing quite a bit of shopping around.

Thanks for the ideas. I never thought about the curvature of the blade, but I should have. I used to work for Caterpillar. Blade design means a lot when moving dirt.

I am headed to my dealer this weekend to pick up a LandPride blade. I went by TSC and looked at the KK blades and they really are pretty cheap. The moldboard is fairly flat which would be a lot like my box blade when it came to moving snow.

I like the idea of the Midwest blade with a "no tool" adjustment, but I'll take the money I save and buy a Pat's easy change. I have air tools - anything can come apart fast for an adjustment, but they don't help me a bit when I am switching implements.
