The voltage dash light on my LK3054 is either flashing slow or intermittently coming on. I've read through some posts here and there and seems it may possibly be a voltage regulator.

Has anyone any tips regarding this?

Thank you.

Place a digital voltmeter on your battery and with the tractor running at 1500 rpm with headlights on you should see around 14.2 volts. Typical dash light is set up to come on steady below 12.6 volts or battery voltage indicating a charging system problem. Check tension on belt to alternator and if it's not loose it's an alternator or regulator problem. Sometimes the regulator also may be overcharging the battery above 14.6 volts which will trigger the light and doesn't do the battery any favors.

Thank you. I will follow your instructions. Will an overcharge situation from the regulator show on the voltmeter?

Never mind. I just re-read your post.

With the above procedure, I am getting a reading of 15.36 +/- volts.

I知 guessing a voltage regulator is indicated.

Try doing the same voltage test on your car. My first inclination is to suspect your meter if you are reading 15.3+ volts
It is extremely rare for a charging system to fail and produce excess voltage at the battery. It can happen but rarely.

This charging wiring diagram is from a WSM for a DK40. Often models of the same brand of tractor are very similar

Note the diode I have circled. it is wired in series with the charging light.

Have you boosted the battery recently? If so there is the possibility that a momentary reverse connection of the booster cables blew the diode.

John Deere is the one company that incorporates protection within their electrical system to prevent such damage. Other brands have yet to catch up.

The troubleshooting section talks about a relay. If there is a relay panel, look for a relay connected to the charging system.

Dave,
I will look into this.
I have a regulator on the way, although I will have a week or so until it arrives.
Thank you,
RF

Now I am baffled.
New Voltage regulator, battery ground strap has good contact.
Voltage dash lamp still flashes.

An observation I have made is that if I turn the headlights on (and leave them on), the light goes off and stops flashing. I'd hate to run this tractor with the headlights on all of the time.

To my untrained electrical mind, it still seems like the system is still overcharging (causing the dash lamp to flash), and by turning on something electrical on the tractor; this excess charge is diverted from the battery thus stopping the condition that would trigger the dash lamp to flash.

Does this set of circumstances shed light on the source of the problem for anyone?

Thank you,
RF
