Kioti parking brake failure...has this happened to you?

Did it fail the same way? How many hours? Did you just buy a new locking lever?

I hardly ever used my parking brake. I park it in a shed on flat ground. I really only use it when I need to trailer it. It broke around the 150 hour mark.

Mine has not worked right from day one. 98 hours now, but I am on flat ground.

I have a similar, but different problem. I have a Kioti RX7620. The parking brake let go, when I wasn't on the tractor, and the tractor took off. I heard a loud click, which was the mechanism releasing and off she went.

The dog is slightly worn, but the teeth on the ratchet look ok. I feel that the ratchets do not have enough vertical free space in them, for the dog to engage thoroughly.

I'm looking for a solution, other than just replacing worn soft steel (tractor has done around 300 hours).

I believe that there is an intrinsic design fault. The lever engaging the ratchet, has a spring on it pulling upwards, attempting to disengage the brake; and if for whatever reason, there is a poor engagement of dog with ratchet, then the spring is trying to release the brake.... elementary dear Watson

Interesting you mention leaving your HST 'in gear' when parked. I do too, and almost always lower the bucket or whatever is on the FEL, BUT have too many times bumped the HST out of 'gear', especially when wearing shorts climbing on/off the tractor.

One time I was exiting the OP station, and as I began to walk away I just caught out of the corner of my eye, that the tractor was in process of flipping toward me! It was on level ground, and the entire backhoe and subframe was dangling from the FEL, since I had just flipped that 1000# monstrosity in my barn bay trying to get it to cooperate, and it won, and fell over onto the floor. So I had gotten it out of the barn to figure something else out, when I jumped off the station to check on something regarding the hoe, and just my weight being moved off the station was enough to allow the tipping point to take over. I jumped on the tractor and reached over to the FEL lever and pushed it down in time to keep from flipping the tractor. The right rear tire was a ways off the ground when I jumped back on. Another second of hesitation, and she would have flipped for sure. Needless to say, NOT my best day of tractoring....:confused3:

Yeah, the CK30's range shift lever can easily be snagged with the hip or pant leg. I have been meaning to shorten
it a bit. Fortunate thing (!) in my case is the range-shifter is hard to move.

On my first tractor, the range-shift was in same place, but super-easy to shift into neutral unintentionally. In that
case, a Kubota L2550DT, it was a gear trans, and I got in trouble a few times on slopes.

The HST is the best of the safety devices I currently have, as long as it is not shifted into neutral. On a slope,
if the parking brake fails (or I do not have the FEL jambed into the ground), the tractor only creeps downhill
slowly. Even on steep slopes.

Here is the part of the brake lever that locks into the teeth of the parking lock
lever. You can see the notch worn into it. The lock lever is only 1/8" mild
steel and hence the 1/8" wide worn spot (arrow). Getting the brake mechanism
out would be a bear, so my fix will not include this worn area.

I see a retainer spring in there that looks like maybe it is a little too weak for the job to keep it tight. Maybe it aloud some vibration to chew at it while running?

The spring does not have to be strong, just strong enough to overcome gravity and make the
male part come out of the slot when releasing. The force of holding the brakes on holds the mechanism
engaged. You must overcome THAT force when releasing the brake. I have to push pretty
hard on the brake pedal to get them to release.
