Kioti Third Function - true third function, or just a diverter valve?

The Kioti OEM has a loader controller replacement stick that has two buttons. One button opens the grapple and the other button closes it.

That is true third function.

-- I can raise and lower at the same time while opening and closing the grapple, but not curl or dump.

** I made some inputs in-line with the text. :)

That is Diverter valve third function.

justman777: usually when I am doing light grapple work, I am running at 1500 - 1800 rpm. Do you consider this low speed for curl / dump?

I guess that I should time it relative to the specs to see if it out of line with expected, duh.

Guess I should have clarified----I'm basing my observations off my JD 2305, and the hydraulics were very slow. The NX seems pretty fast to me in comparison.

In my ham-fisted experience my DK45s loader valve makes coordinated simultaneous lift and curl difficult. So I only work one axis at a time so three simultaneous functions wouldn't matter. I decided to install a diverter in the curl circuit using parts I bought from Brian. This lets me feather the flow to the grapple.

My third function is WR Long electric over hydraulic. There is a toggle switch on the joy stick. Up opens - down closes. I've have no difference in function between using the grapple or the bucket. I can lower, curl down & close - all at the same time - just fine. I will usually be running the tractor around 1800 rpm when using the grapple.

However - I will seldom do all three at the same time. I'm not that coordinated and really not in that big of a hurry.

I installed a Kioti OEM third-function kit almost a year ago when I bought my tractor. Intent was to get a grapple, but life happened and had to wait. I finally got a grapple, and had the opportunity to try it out the other day on moving some brush piles into the fire. No...not the best place to learn how to use it, but you do what you gotta do. Anyway, I realized very quickly that opening/closing the grapple did a few things. First, if you were moving, it slowed the tractor down a bit. Second, I lost the curl/dump function of the loader....which is kinda important when you want to open the grapple and dump stuff at the same time, especially if you're dumping in a fire.

Does everyone else have a similar experience with their Kioti brand third-function? I triple checked the installation instructions, and I have everything connected correctly. If it were a third function, shouldn't I be able to use the dump/curl or full loader function AND open and close the grapple at the same time?

Thanks!

Hi,
So here what I'm pretty sure of (no science to prove it tho) Kioti's loader valve (on most models I'd say) is not as functional as say Kubota's loader valve. I've had both machines, and Kubota can tilt and curl great while raising and lowering, Kioti's reference material states it can as well. However in practice with my "Shiny Brand New Kioti Model tractor" it works so slow and is so hard to find the "sweet spot" I've given up on using them together. I took it back to the dealer for this and they said it is working correctly the loader valve design is the issue, the ports are not sized correctly for "effective dual operation" (unlike Kubota). I bought a "True 3rd Function valve" and was planning on installing it this winter on my DK4010SE, but I realize (I think) I'll have the same problem as justman777.
I'll have paid for a true 3rd function valve but due to Kioti's "cheap" loader valve I'll end up with basically an expensive Diverter valve - only able to do one function at a time. Curl and dump won't work well simultaneously with open and close on the grapple. I think It'll be so slow they'll be ineffective, just like the loader bucket is now. Anyone have a true 3rd function on a Newer Kioti that has the ability to open/close and curl/dump quickly with a grapple or are they very slow as I've explained? Thanks.

In the manual it states that you cannot combine these operations even though the decal on the FEL shows it can, I was just going through some loader valves issues and they are a one check valve design that prevents you curling and lifting or lowering the boom/bucket at the same time. So yes it is a poorly designed loader valve.

On DK20, the factory joystick comes with 2 buttons for third function. But my dealer said it is actually a diverter (using bucket control hydraulics). Can anyone confirm if the factory third function option DKA157 is a true third function?

aftermarket true third function kits seem to be available

Kubota used to use a valve made by Husco that was series - parallel in design

This style of valve directs the oil returning from lift - lower function back into the pressure galley for use downstream (I.e. curl dump) This makes both raising and dumping an easier task. Husco quit making that valve so not sure what Kubota uses today

Most valves are parallel design where the lowest load gets oil first when trying to run multiple functions. If you have true 3rd function downstream of the FEL valve then flow will stop to it when FEL is being used unless FEL is being feathered allowing some oil flow raise and some bypassing downstream

People you need piloted values in order to get two functions working at once otherwise, hydraulic pressure flows to the easiest thing to function, first. Kioti does not supply piloted loader valves.
