I am rebuilding my 14 hp kohler k321, I got new piston, rings, had it bored, and crank only 1 thousands under so going to use it and rod ok.

my question is the counter balances (2) are loose and to replace them is another $160.00 DOES ANYONE KNOW IF IT WOULD RUN OK WITHOUT THEM, I DONT SEE ANY REASON I COULDNT JUST YANK EM OUT . I ONLY USE THIS MOWER TO PLOW SNOW LIKE 11 TIMES A YR. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

MAny have removed the balancers from the K series Kohlers with good success.

If I am thinking correctly.. won't removing weight from the crankshaft make the motor have less torque.

I'd ask about this on IHregistry.com. The balance stuff was there to make the motor run more smoothly when they used to mount the engine directly to the frame before they start using those rubber mounts. I think you may get more opinion from people who are involved with vintage CCs.

The counter balance 'weights' wont offer any inertial force at all like a lighter/smaller flywheel would take away. Theoretically, taking another moving part out there should zap less power from the engine.
