I have the 48" model with the lights and suspension seat, anybody know how much the grass catcher kit is and is even worth it for picking up leafs? Do I need a mulching kit with this also? Because right now i dont have that.

Right now I just keep cutting in same direction and blowing the leaves to rear of property kinda pain in the ***.

grass catcher up here is 2k. also think it creates a new pain in the ***.....filling up real quick, emptying a lot and having the wind blow it back...
Not trying to talk you out of it.....but i just run over them couple of times,

Thanks Pete, do you use the mulching kit?

No, I dont. But it chops the leaves up just fine. I cut in one direction only when chopping the leaves up, and by the time i get near the edge of my property, they're gone. Dont get me wrong...i'm not a tightwad, but in my opinion, i think it's a wast of money and i really wouldnt benefit from it, just for collecting leaves couple day a year and have it sitting around in my way all the time, since i wouldnt use it for grass collection anyways.

Still thinking about one of these for my z1 series, anybody got one ? Looking for feedback.

I also own a bx25 but don't have a mower deck, my other option is to look for a deck and grass catcher for that but that's about 2k used.

I just took delivery of a z121s this week and I'm just getting acquainted with it. Unfortunately I have not been able to carve out much time to use it yet. I was happy today to find I can finally mow in a straight line - - that was a challenge at 1st.
I asked the dealer about a grass catcher and have one on order - - the dealer price was about $950. I don't normally collect grass & leaves, but I use the clippings as much as I need to mulch the vegetable garden. And that organic material will get tilled in the next time I run the tiller. I also use the clippings to keep a couple of compost piles going, one from last year & one that I currently add to. Normally I want the cut grass to fall back onto the lawn or pasture as nutrient material.

Can't really speak to this specific model (although I want a catcher for my Z724)...My mom's JD has a powered grass catcher and it does ok for dry thin cover leaves...Anything else, you'll be cleaning the chute. Doubt much changed between high end JD's and Kubota's..Could be wrong though.

I have the 42in (two blade) Kommander and I bought the mulching kit along with the mower. I don't have a lot of grass but I have always enjoyed mowing often and mulching vs. bagging. Putting the cuttings back into the ground is best IMO. You end up using less fertilizer and you aren't depleting the soil and gradually losing height of grade. The mulch kit works well on my Z122. Just have to mow regularly for a decently fine cut lawn... not a scissor cut like the old style mowers but.... That said, I also cut 2ft neglected grass with the mulch kit on and going slow but fast enough, it amazingly chewed it up well. Never bogged down. Just not full speed. I always recommend mulching.

My wife used her small Kubota Z while I was mowing with my F3080. She was zipping all over the place. She told me her big complaint was the cut grass blowing back on her which is why I hate the side discharge decks. Anyone have a solution? I don't want to add any catcher because I to want my clippings back on the ground.

I have the bagger for my Z122R (42") and for the few leaves I've picked up so far this year it's been pretty handy. I do notice some leaves squirting out the right front of the mower deck, however I didn't installed the high lift blades yet that came with the kit so that may improve. I've also notice that the bags fills up fast, so you need to pay attention and empty the bags often. Not the best, not with worst, still better than raking.

Mulch kit around $200 so not going there. May try just a baffle over the end of the discharge chute.

check the price for a set of two high lift blades. You could easily fab the close out piece and the middle baffle if you can get a look at one.

Mcaveman,
Yes, I purchased the rear bagger for my z121s, 48". The cost was right at $1k, installed. I am not entirely happy about the purchase. When I got it home I stared using it to collect grass/leaves to use as mulch in my garden & compost fodder in my compost pile. It collects just fine, but it does reach capacity pretty quick. The only other rear bagger I have used was on my craftsman where I can reach behind me to feel how full a bag is - - that is not possible on the Kubota. The bags are too far away. Second, the bags themselves are pretty danged heavy before you fill them with debris. Once filled, I find them hard to deal with. I will admit I am not as strong as I was a few years [or decades] ago. My solution has been to make very short runs so I don't fill the bags entirely.
I also have a complaint about the z121s throwing out grass from the front of the deck in front of the discharge chute. It does this with/without the rear bagger. I had hoped the bagger would help this problem, but no.
OK time to take the bagger off so I am not slowed down by having to stop so often & empty bags - - Kubota does have what looks to be a neat system that uses 3 round knobs that you supposedly are to loosen in order to take off the bagger chute. The problem was/is those knobs are locking [not sure of the appropriate term] - - the closer the knob is to snugging up, the more difficult it is to turn. I could just turn 2 of the knobs, but one was down lower where it was difficult to grip except with the tips of my fingers & thumb. No way could I turn with any force - - had to resort to some sliplocks. Once I got the knobs off, I went straight to the hardware store to get the right size nuts & lock washers to take the place of the knobs. Now I can attach/unattach using a deep socket. Much easier.
OK, now that I have removed the bagger chute it is time to replace the normal discharge chute. First of all, you have to remove one of the threaded posts that are used to hold the bagger chute in place, or the discharge chute will not fit. Not hard, just another step.
I had forgotten how difficult the task was on my craftsman to replace the discharge chute so that the chute is kept down by that little spring. In fact, on the Kubota, I've started using the mower with the chute held down only by gravity- - - seems to work well enough just leaving the spring off.
Overall, I like the z121s with the exception of its tendency to blow grass/leaves out the front right of the deck in front of the discharge chute. But, I am not real fond of the rear bagger.
Hope this makes sense.
Jack

I would use the bagger only for leaf collection, I was worried about the bags filling up,to quick and it sounds like you guys are confirming that. Think for now I am gonna make do without it.
