Kubota B Series - Service It Yourself

Just completed 50 hr. maintenance on Kubota B2601. Thanks for this post... great help. One question though. After draining trans and hydro (3 plugs) (wow that was a lot of oil that came out) and replacing HST and Trans filter and refilling with 4 gallons of SUDT2, the oil on trans dipstick is much higher than full indicator. Should I be worried about this? Will it eventually “level out” after use? Should I drain some out? Your opinions are appreciated.

Start with the obvious.... On level ground? Make sure the dipstick was wiped off well before rechecking. Run the tractor, cycle the valves, and recheck... If still high I'd agree that you over added a bit due to the fact that you can never fully drain all the oil..

I did the same dang thing and had to drain some out to get back to the full mark on the dipstick. You don't want to operate with a high/low fluid level.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I’m going to pull a little out so it is at the proper level on dipstick.

Like many others' here.....thank you for the thread info.

I'll be doing the first 50hr service and complete fluid/filter change on my B2650 tomorrow.

The info on the hyd fluid level helps! I will see how much comes out and refill accordingly.

Thanks again!

Be very conservative when refilling. Fill it about 3/4 of what you drained out and check dipstick and add a little. Dont get it overfilled or you will consume more time getting it out. Be patient and go thru the check dipstick-add process.

A curious note on "oil fill levels"

When early Fordsons were introduced to the States from Cork, some engine failures were noted by farmers of hilly lands. THis got to be a bit of a concern, so Fordson put their best engineers to the task. After long trials and much tribulation, A "Hill Country: retrofit kit was supplied to any dealer that requested such.

The "kit" was composed of just one element.

A shortened dip stick!
