Hey guys

I decided to change the oil on my Kubota B2920 the other day. I had the original 50 hour service done at the dealer but decided to begin to do some of this myself.

I am relatively new to the tractor world and am learning as I go.

Anyway, the process seemed pretty straightforward and went smoothly. However, later that night I noticed some oil dripping down off the frame. I figured that it was some residual that had spilled after removing the old filter. I wiped everything down real well. I used the tractor for some light duty jobs yesterday for about 30 minutes. Oil level was fine before and after. However, I just checked again and there is some oil dripping again off the frame beneath the filter.

Is it possible the filter is leaking? Should I just start the whole process over again.

Thanks for any advice, sorry for novice questions!

Matt

Did you clean the mating surfaces thoroughly? You also should apply oil to the gasket face on the filter before installing. How much did you tighten the filter? Typically you spin it on hand tight then another 1/2 turn. Try to tighten it slightly more and if that fails then drain the oil and remove the filter then follow procedure above.

Also a good habit to always check the old filter and make sure the o-ring stayed with IT and NOT stuck to the side of the tractor. 2-orings on an oilfilter wont seal

I have a B2320 same frame series. When I change my oil if I dont pack a rag under the filter where the frame rails are the oil leaks down onto a metal sheild peice. I would then get drips for a day or so coming off the pan. I now pack a rag and wipe the said pan when Im done changing the oil.

It could also be what others have posted.

keep us posted

Thanks LD. I looked at the old filter, sure enough no O-ring. I removed the new filter and there it was. Thanks so much for all the help, this site is such a valuable resource for those like me learning the ropes.

Thanks again

This is very easy to do, miss that seal ring and leave it sticking on the tractor. Sure many of us that do our own have done it at least once.:)
The other advises are also very good. If you haven't left the ring then tighten the filter a bit more if the oil isn't dripping somewhere else.

Ok, so removed the extra seal ring. Ran the tractor for about an hour yesterday. Seems to be running/operating fine. Oil level normal before and after use.

This morning noticed another small quarter sized stain on the cardboard I had placed underneath for monitoring. Cannot seem to locate any dripping anywhere. It was kind of a mess taking off the filter, but I thought that I had wiped it all down pretty good. Any thoughts or need for worry.

Quarter sized is probabally just one drop. Most likely one that was missed when you wiped it down.

I wouldnt worry just yet, but continue to monitor it
