I'm looking for a smaller tractor to work up some food plots on my land, maybe use a brush hog a couple times a year. I've come across a B5100E for sale. I'm not familiar with anything bigger than a garden tractor.... Anything I should know about this model? I read that the B6000 has a reverse pto. My biggest concern is can I easily get the right 3 pt implements for it, and are parts still easy to get. (I'm not sure of the year yet, guessing late 70's early 80's) Thanks!

Get a newer tractor if you can afford it, finding parts might be hard on B5100.

We have a B5100D (the 4wd variant). It has normal PTO shaft rotation. It's a great little tractor, but it comes with some limitations. At 12hp/10 at the PTO, and a 310# 3pt lift limit, you're not going to be able to lift very much in the way of implements or muscle a brush hog through tall grass or brush. It just barely manages a 40", 300# tiller. I suspect a 4' brush hog would be too much. To it's credit, it pulls a 4x6 fully loaded trailer like a champ through soft soil. It's about 36" wide, so it fits where almost no other diesel, 4wd tractor can go. So far, I have been able to get all the parts I need to keep it going with the exception of the front PTO (electric) drive shaft, which I intend to fix by remanufacturing myself. Personally, if I had to have only one tractor for small acreage farming or food plotting and chores on a limited budget, I'd be looking at it's bigger brother, the B7100. 4wd makes a big difference in utility as does a FEL (front end loader). Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

I own a Yanmar 1110d which is basically the same size catagory as a B5100E except mine has 4wd. I would think that without 4wd that kubota would be limited for food plotting purposes. The B5100Es were usually set up for lawn care purposes. I like the suggestion for the bigger B7100D, they were very popular, and can be had fairly cheap.
