Probably was a lot of mowing use around trees with low branches, so they took it off. Likely a fixed ROPS which would catch a lot of tree limbs.

I keep my ROPS on the Ferris ZT folded for that reason, and we are on level ground.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Kubota. I bought a new M9000 in 2003 and it still runs like new 20+ years later. It's been mostly used as a loader tractor the whole time, but also used a lot at full PTO speed with bush hog, disk mower, baler, etc. That price is a bargain IMO, although I'm not that knowledgeable about compact tractors. The M9000 is 90hp so not the same category. But, I suspect the Kubota quality goes through the whole product line.

Gee, I have 2 of them (M9's) one a cab and one open station and they both work pretty hard. One has 5500 hours and the other has 4500 hours. Both have loaders and the cab unit is fully optioned out, even has the 540-1000 rpm pto and both have 3 sets of remotes with flow control valves. 2001 and 2002 respectively. They aren't 90 pto stock, they are 82, but both of mine are turned up (by my Kubota dealer) to 93 pto horsepower. Both are hydraulic shuttle and the cab unit has the creep gears installed. Never had any issue with either one, just routine maintenance and tires and I expect both to outlast me as well.

Sure glad I bought them when I did, considering how expensive they would be today. They hold their value as well.

the M9000 seems to me to be one of the finest early M series utility models, aside (of course) from my model purchased new in '08. pre tier4 in itself is big, regards
the transmission lock ebrake on my model compared to the conventional ratchet version is one of the reasons i upgraded to current model.

What I find interesting with both of mine that even cranked up a bit, they both are excellent on fuel consumption as well. I read (on here) about the new emissions compliant ones and they all seem to suck down fuel. Neither of mine do at all.
