Kubota BX getting rid of stump in my new potato/veggie garden

It simply amazes me what these small tractors can do , thanks for the video . Would be interesting to see what a ripper tooth adds to the equation .

I can only speak for myself but it cuts the time in half if not more.

OP

Save yourself a ton of time!

Cut your stumps 6-10ft off the ground

Water around the tree

Tie a strap/chain up high

Pull with a 4x4 truck or large tractor

Done!

How much time did this take you? Ridiculous

No this is ridiculous. He wouldn't risk tearing up his 4X4 and he don't own a larger tractor. There's a lot of risk doing it the way you mentioned and you know that. He used what was available, his tractor. No risk, just a little time which you can clearly see he enjoyed. I don't see anything wrong with that. This is what he purchased his tractor for. Let him enjoy it.

Sorry, but I have to chime in here as well. I have done much the same as the OP several times. Your suggestion in my opinion could be considered 'ridiculous'. I don't own or have access to a large tractor and there is no way to access using my 4x4. Even if I did I surely wouldn't abuse it that way... and oh, my stumps were not cut above my head. You are a firefighter and you make suggestions like that... hmmm? :confused3:

I couldn't agree more , it is way to risky cutting any tree up that high as you have no idea of what that tree may do when falling ,the way of escape trying to cut a tree that high could be really bad to say the least .

Yup works great!

Hook up a tow strap up high

Start cutting

Winch it down where you want

Takes all risk away from having an "accident"

Then tow strap up high on trunk

Pull gently

Comes right out

NP

Thanks

You just learned something

Enjoyment in running his tractor. That's what I took from his post. Heck, I'm thinking up stuff to do with mine, just to run it or tinker with it.

I had a young friend who was concerned about my "efficiencies" in my right of way mowing business that I started up. Making more money wasn't the goal anymore for me. Finding enjoyment in what I was doing was the goal. He just couldn't understand that.

Yep I checked my video it was just 24 mins to get it out. I cut the tree off not many days before that and left the stump high enough to get good leverage. Not a lot of large diameter roots but lots of little ones. Didn't use anything but the BX to get it out.

Eas it a Newfie tree? Trees here in Ontario are much tougher, of course.😜

You're right our trees can't match yours for size and hardness...

(BTW I should have subscribed to my own post as I'm just now getting to read all the comments made earlier... some good some bad :)
