Shy_guy0324,

Welcome to TBN!

As Henro pointed out, I've got a B2910 on 2/3 acre. As we're so often told "Size doesn't matter!!!" See, you can use that in many ways. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I started looking at full-size garden tractors about 4 years ago. Found the Kubota B series and I was hooked. That's where I felt I got the most bang for the buck. Of course, I went a bit overboard, but I've never regretted it.

I would recommend you get as much tractor as you can reasonably afford. Interest rates are still pretty low, so if you can finance a bit more, do so and get a larger unit. You'll never regret it. Well maintained tractors hold their value much longer than cars and will probably last much longer as well. I bought mine when I was 40 expecting it to last the rest of my life. In almost 4 years, I've only put 88 hours on it, but I've never regretted my investment.

When I bought mine I "justified" it using logic(?) /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif something like this: I could justify about 1/3 of the cost because of the jobs I knew I needed it for. About 1/3 of the cost for things I haven't thought of and about 1/3 'cause I just wanted it!. I'm not sure which 1/3 is suffering, but I've used it for many more jobs than I ever could have imagined.

The BX's are great machines. Several people here seem to be very happy with the BX1500. If you can swing somthing a bit larger, I don't think you'll be sorry. If you think you'll ever want or need a small backhoe, the BX23 is hard to beat and the price, for it's capabilities, is reasonable. Heck, you might even consider pulling a "reverse Henro". That is, buy a BX2200 now, and in about a year buy a B2910 with backhoe. And if you really want to shake him up, buy an L3130 the year after that! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good Luck,

~Rick

The man is asking a speciic queation about an engine, not a tractor choice!

Don't read too much into the question.

Give me a break, Cecil. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I would venture to say that my reply was worth more to the man than yours was... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have the BX1500 and am very pleased with it. The 2nd poster is right - drive one, then decide. Just a few hundred rpm off idle and it is smooooth city. I bought mine mainly to mow and find that at least 50% of the time I use it I'm using the FEL. I have a tiller and a box blade with it. I Love the 4WD and locking rear differential features. You need 4WD and low range on the HST to dig into a dirt pile and get a full scoop of dirt. By the way - safety is everything! This tractor gets tippy when using the FEL. I think you need several hundred pounds on the back (tiller) to properly and safely use the FEL.

Also - 15hp diesel on the 54" deck running 8 mph on a smooth lawn will mow a lot of area in a big hurry. I think I can mow my 1.7acres of odd shapes and sizes and trees and a pond in less than an hour. Check back with me after the whole space is growing well again.

Cecil,

C'mon, you know a lot of us here on TBN have no life and just like to sit around typing about tractors. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Although we didn't know the specific answers to his questions, I think it's important that if he has any doubts at all about the tractor, he might be well served to look at something else. And I just babbled 'cause he thought a BX1500 was overkill for his property. I would beg to differ.

When I was looking at them I liked the 54 inch deck better. Seemed to me like it was built more like the bigger decks and it stuck out more to make cutting near stuff easier. but that was me.
anyhow you will love that tactor. Like i said it was the one I wanted but I got too good a deal on the 1800 to pass up

Shy_guy0324,

Congratulations!!! It's a good thing you bought it...otherwise before you knew it Henro and I would have talked you right into an L. It's happened before. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good Luck with your new tractor. You will be amazed at how useful these things can be.

I realize you have ordered but you should taje a hard look at the 54" deck. It is built much better and can roll out on its own wheels.

Hi
I actually seriously considered the 54" mower @ about 500.00 more here in canada.. but I have a number of small trees that the 48" just fits through. Therefore the 54 would have caused me more handtrimming.

I'm hoping to have it by tommorrow afternoon... but the weatherman says rain /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
