I also worried that a tractor would be a vanity purchase for me. I have 15 heavily wooded acres in Vermont. Since then I have used it almost every day that I have off. I now have a fleet of attachments, lend it out to coworkers and relatives...couldn;t be happier. I also regret only that I did not buy one sooner. Just thinking of all the time I wasted doing things by hand or paying someone else to do it half-assed gets me depressed.

I would definitely recommend that you buy the thumb from the dealer and let them install - there have been problems with some of the thumbs damaging things. Also get a toothbar and skid-plate - must-haves for the BX. Let the dealer deal with installing them.

Looks like a no brainer to install. The dealer didn't seem to know much about them when I asked (but I do have him checking into it and see what he comes back with). I've read a bunch on the thumbs and really like the Wallenstein Thumb (even though it may have an issue with the link that can be beefed up and they seemed to back it). I have not seen any threads on damaging stuff due to improper DIY installation. It's more proper use and knowing it's limits than anything from what I read.

It's just the base TLB. With turf tires and 12" bucket.

I plan to order the thumb on ebay.
I like the AGs on my BX.23
HAVE had no lawn damage even from mowing with the FEL and BH mounted.
I just ordered 2 BX1500s.
They both have turfs but I'm having the dealer switch the turfs to AGs on the used BX1500 with the Front blade and the rear tiller.
I'm leaving the turfs on the new BX 1500 with the 48'' MMM which should be fine for mowing. I don't know how the turfs will do if I ever hook up a box blade or chain drag to it.

I have to pay cash for my toys or I'll spend what's sitting in the bank too.

I'm having it delivered to NH as far as taxes go. I don't have to register the tractor do I?
1*That's why i don't have any money in the bank >---> It's to easy to get to -- that and the fact that the return on it is next to nothing setting in a bank.
2*There has been a lot of discussion about attempting to avoid sales tax by buying out of state.
It's not really legal and can be costly if caught.

The Wallenstein thumb is a no-brainer to install, but that still doesn't mean it won't break a fitting on your boom. I bought mine from the dealer and they installed it. The design is flawed in that it is not possible to tighten enough so that the thumb doesn't eventually slide up the boom and break a hydraulic fitting. The only reasonable way to my knowledge is get the thumb in place and then weld either one or two stops so that the bracket cannot slide. I believe someone posted a picture of the weld they did. Pretty simple, just have a matching can of paint ready and it will look like it was born there...

Good luck with new tractor. Messick's is a top shelf operation and you will not be disappointed. We purchased two machines from Lauren in the past three years. They are nice friendly people over there and have very good prices. How is your Bx24 set up for that price?

Where in PA is Messick's located? I wouldn't mind stopping in and doing some shopping!;)

Thanks......

Depening on how you make the purchase., states are prohibited from collecting sales tax on "internet" purchases. This law was reinstated and extended for 4 more years by congress this past week. It did not expire! Now they can hit you for personal property tax etc...but not SALES tax. In some states when you register if required it a personal property tax, that why some tags fees can be taken off federal income and other can not. So depending on how you purchased...fyi...my IRS buddies tell me, mail order, telephone sales are "NOT" internet purchases in thier view....

Excellent move purchasing from Messicks. That's where mine came from, and I'm quite pleased. I'm fortunate enough to be in their delivery area, free of charge.

I think that you made a good point in saying that you've never regretted any purchase of a good, quality tool. A tractor like this is certainly a TOOL. When I finally got mine after two years of dreaming, my wife said that I didn't seem as excited as she would have thought. I was definitely excited, but I found myself not jumping up and down like I had just gotten a toy (as I also thought I would have been), but feeling very pleased to have invested in an extremely useful tool.

It sounds like you need to organize Tractors Across America. Get someone near Messicks to pick up the trailer and drive it 60 miles to the next person who takes it 70 to the next person who takes it 50, and so on, until it reaches its destination. It worked for Ferrets Across America that my wife started a number of years back. :D
