I chose the Wallenstein thumb over the Brotek because it seemed like it'd get a better grip and while the toplink idea is clever, I thought it'd be a bit of a nuisance in practice. I did mangle two hydraulic fittings before I figured out what caused it. I welded the small plate that the Wallenstein thumb uses to secure itself to the dipperstick, and it has been trouble-free since then. So, if you have a welder or access to one, it's a simple mod to avoid the problems. If I had to do it over again, I'd get the Wallenstein thumb again.
