Traction Kubota BX24 "Chatters" no power

Ken, BX's don't have a clutch. It's all hydro.

RaydaKub. Mattj Some where in my mind it was built like the L series that I used to own.
So reason for the clutch. I stand corrected. Looked back at Mattj's posting of 6/2011 and his problems with pump.
Wonder what the failure rate is for this type of set up.

It's not as common as one would think, especially given that the BX is probably Kubota's most produced and sold tractor (it was for many yrs IIRC).

Seems most BX HST failures are brought on by user situations.
Running them low and/or empty on fluid is a sure way to damage the pump. It also seems that prolonged constant loading of the HST (especially when in high range) can damage the swash plate carrier/bearings.
Another problem is improper engagement of the rear wheel locker which shears the locking pin. The pin & it's many pieces wll then usually start wiping out the ring gears teeth.
Then theres always the possiblity of component failure such as the relief valve(s).

I don't recall reading of cheaper and/or lesser grade hydraulic fluid(s) causing any failures, but I have read of many reports of poor performance from these fluids.

Unfortunately w/most if not all HST's, no matter the brand, once one has a catastophic failure where debris gets circulated, it may be best to just replace it than try to rebuild it.
Altho many have rebuilt and reported good peformance afterwards.

I know you said that fuel was fine, but your symptoms sound slightly similar to mine that were caused by a clogged fuel filter. My L5740 would operate fine at low ground speed and Rpm, but would fall flat on its face as soon as the engine demanded more fuel than could be delivered. By the sound, I swore it was something mechanical. Chattering, and only at the point at which it fell on its face. Probably isn't your woe, bit I thought I would throw a bit of hope in here for future lurkers.

OP states he's got full power on FEL & hoe, so it's not fuel, filter, or engine issue.

Worked on a skid steer loader with Kubota engine. the pumps were layed out then loader built on top of them . had to take a plate off bottom to get under and on top of unit reach full arm reach to get bolts and piping loose. Cross threaded a pipe fitting special order for the line. had one made at NAPA and installed . Have turned a blind ear to requests to work on another.

I don't own a bx24, but I do own an m125x, and had a hydraulic problem that sounds similar to yours. On my tractor it was the input hydraulic filter that was causing the hydraulic pump to be starved for fluid.

Pulling the hydraulic filter there was some metal, and it was overfilled. Fix was to pull the hydraulic filter, drain the system, refill withe correct amount, run for 10 hours, then replace the filter again to catch any remaining debris. Fixed the problem.

Overfilling the hydraulic system will cause the return system to malfunction on mine. In my case I had a hired hand who mistook the chatter for low hydraulic level and put in 10 gallons more than he should have.

Kubota really means it when they say to replace the hydraulic filters every X hours (varies per model, check your owners manual).

My BX 24 has problems moving in forward or reverse. Bigtime chattering noise when going up even a slight incline and finally won't go. Diesel is OK, hydraulic fluid level OK, hoe and bucket have plenty of power.
Tractor is 5 years old and in good shape.
Advice?

Just came across your post. I had the same exact problem with my BX1500. Ended up being he HST, which I replaced myself with the help of the WSM. Definitely a DIY'er job if you've got mechanical skills. I bought all the parts from BigOrange.com. Here's a link to my thread, which I posted some pics.
