Mowing Kubota BX24. Real tractor or a glorified lawn mower?

BX24 Here. I'm 6'1, 250 pounds. The tractor fits me fine, and I have several 10-12 hour days in the seat. This is my first tractor, so I don't have anything to compare it with.

My property is 6.23 acres of heavily wooded and sloped mountain land. I have done alot of excavation with the BH and FEL, and have always been able to complete the tasks I have set out to do. Sure, there are times when I wish I could lift a bigger rock, or move a pile of dirt faster, but I always get the job done. I have around 300 hours of seat time in just under 2 years.

My brother owns a landscape company, and whenever he has a stop and waste to dig up, I bring out the BH to do the job. It is a great machine for getting through 4 foot wide gates into people's back yards where larger machines would force you to dig a 5 foot deep hole by hand.

I'll attach some pics of work that I have done exclusively with the BX24, so you can get a feel of what they are capable of...

I know what you mean, I am 6"8", 450lbs and I have no problems fitting on my BX. It has done everything I have asked of it. I am soooooo more happy with it than I thought I would be:D!

Hope this helps. I would say the BX is a lot more than a glorified lawn mower but as everyone already said, it really boils down to what you want to do with a tractor and how much you want to spend. I notice the dealer near me often has used BXs on the lot that came in from trades,
1*but I also notice that they don't sit around very long.
1*That's due to the very high demand for the BXs.
Both new and used.

My dads got the BX 1500. I'm a Dairy Farmer outside from my house so its small to me. That little BX 1500 sure does make life alot easier around the house for small projects, but the JD 4650 sure does pull the 6 bottom plow a whole **** of alot better then the little Kubota! :D

Glorified Lawnmower YES and what a GLORIOUS one it is, one heck of a tractor as well.

I do not use mine to cut the grass but I can tell you it is a great little tractor and has been up to every challenge yet.

I bought a JD X320 mower a year earlier than my BX24. Wish I saved that 4K and bought the BX from the start.

I have 2 bx 1500s

Oh my gosh! Really? When did you get them? Recent aquisitions? Did you buy both of them at the same time? Do you have pictures? I'd like to see them. Do you have any other BX's or just the 2 BX1500's? Are they used/old or are all of them new, like bought this year 2010?:):)

For me the BX looks pretty small parked next to a larger tractor, but it looks pretty big when parked next to a push mower, wheel barrow and shovel.

I have the BX24. I find it interesting you see so many for sale. I looked for months for a low hr used one before buying new. All I found was craigs list scams and there are plenty of those. I still dont see real BX's on craigs list.

I have 1 acre of rocky land here in central texas. I have been using the tractor to assist with lots of landscaping. My wife was firmly against buying the tractor and in the end, I bought the tractor and told her she can buy the pool one day. Now she also loves the tractor. It is an extremely versitile machine that stores easily in a small space.

There are certainly limits.... and advantages to its size. You have to be realistic with your expectations. That said, I have found NO job I have attempted the tractor could not accomplish. I can load the FEL with as much building stone as it can hold and lift and move it with no problem. I have pulled stuck Tposts that would not budge though the FEL struggled a bit with some of them. It gets into tight spaces and has a good turn radius. I do find the FEL does bog down a little when trying to take large bucket bites of moist soil like loam. I simply back off the bite and it does just fine. Pulls a landscape rake to break up rocky ground just fine. BH is extremely useful and is the reason I got the machine. I occassionally have to break out a pick axe to get to a rock edge to get a BH bite on it but I cant tell you how useful it has been in planting trees and digging up stumps. It will however NOT dig through solid sheets of rock. I have tried.

My Mom is waiting like a vulture on the day I finish landscaping and decide that a smaller mower will do just fine. I would really really hate to get rid of my BX some day. I am very happy with it.

Also, look of some of the treads on "can my BX do this" or "What can a BX do". You will be amazed.
