Generally filters are on the return side of the system not the suction side, like you would expect. Cavitation from restrictions on the suction side (plugged filter) will destroy a pump faster than a some contamination.

I havent traced out the plumbing fir the hydraulic & HST filters on my old L3200 or new L4060, but suspect they are on the return for that reason.

Most all primary hydraulic filters on CUT and utility tractors are suction filters. So your suspicions are incorrect.

BXs have the screens. Don't think the others do.

This is interesting. My L3400 has two hydraulic filters, spin on type. I thought they didn't use strainers with spin on filters. I saw no mention of cleaning a strainer in my manual. Anyone know if an L3400 has a strainer?

You have to check the parts list online at a Kubota dealer to be sure. I've been fooled a couple of times.
