Well, needless to say, I didn't buy my Kubota from him
Hope you got a better deal where you did buy. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

...Kubota dealers say it isn't necessary.
The Kubota dealer is right. It is not necessary to use Kubota oil in a Kubota, just as it's not necessary to use JD oil in a JD tractor nor is it necessary to use NH oil in a NH tractor. Any oil that meets the specifications is fine. Obviously, if people want to use the manufacturer's products, that's fine, too.

For example, in the case of my NH TC25D, if the engine oil meets (or exceeds) API SL-CF it's OK to use it.

Re: Kubota dealer doesn\'t carry Kubota UDT!

They would only have Case oil in them if they were used units that have been serviced. I believe that all the Kubota's come from the factory filled with oil. I know that the BX 22 does, because they drive them off the truck..... The other thing is that it Kubota didn't think that Super UDT was so important, they wouldn't put it into new machines. Manufacturers pinch pennies and the difference between Super UDT and regular UDT isn't just pennies!!!!! Give that some thought next time someone says just to use the less expensive product......

MikePA........... Super UDT isn't engine oil..... we are talking about transmission oil and the specifications for that are not as simple as with engine oils....

I know. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif UDT is regular dino oil. Super UDT is synthetic.

No offense, Junkman, the same answer applies. Any oil that meets the Kubota specification, e.g., Amsoil Synthetic Tractor Hydraulic/Transmission Fluid meets the Kubota UDT spec, is OK to use. No, I am not an Amsoil dealer. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Kubota dealer doesn\'t carry Kubota UDT!

Billy, that is the most part of it but there is more to it yet. People don't know the difference and yes chances are the dealer makes more profit. There are differences in oil.. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif IH tested there formula to 3000 hours with no oil changes on there diesel oil and 1500 hours for gas engines, both tests were done at full throttle and full load!!!! I haven't seen a oil can that doesn't say it doesn't meet there spec's. I never heard of another company doing what they did and I know for a fact that the SAE test doesn't come close to one tenth that test. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Do I like IH oils for engines yes and I recommend it for all engines. Do hydraulics need special oil to, yes. We do sell Super UDT for the newer Kubotas and we also sell hytran plus which will absorb more condinsation than any hydraulic oil I've seen as well as it is only built on a basic ten weight which is great for this cold area. Every oil man says there product is just as good as the next!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Not so!!! Talk to people that work on engines and they all have a sucess story as well as witnessed premature failures. We do have some oil here that sells for 20 dollars for a five gallon pail for those that like to trade price for longevity!! It helps keep our parts dept and shop going. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Kubota dealer doesn\'t carry Kubota UDT!

Mike - Re: your questions, yes I did buy from a Kubota competitor and saved $1500 on the entire deal (including a FEL).
On the transmission fluid, he was not using a synthetic transmission fluid as specified by Kubota for the 2200 (Super UDT). I questioned him directly on the low temp performance of this and he said he had no problems with all the units he has sold.
Actually, I bought from the other dealer based upon his stellar reputation and the price he offered me.
Also to answer another poster's comment, my BX2200 was unpacked from a wooden crate and had to be assembled and oil and transmission fluid added. Don't know what the procedure is now but that's how it was done in the Fall of 2001.

Re: Kubota dealer doesn\'t carry Kubota UDT!

The BX22 is driven off of a trailer I was told by the dealership .... I assume that the BX23 will be the same.... don't know about the BX2200 or others of the BX series.

Re: Kubota dealer doesn\'t carry Kubota UDT!

Bob, glad you saved $1,500. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif That's a substantial difference.

Given your location (it's 32 degrees in Ft. Collins as of this post), I assume it gets fairly cold there in the winter. The synthetic trans fluid would make for quieter hydraulics in the winter. Your dealer's response (he's always used regular UDT and hasn't had any problems) is true. It's not that regular UDT doesn't work, it's that many people find that Super UDT works better in colder climates and they usually use the 50 hour service, when all the fluids and filters are changed anyway, to switch to Super UDT.

My BX22 came from the factory with Super UDT in it......September 2003

Re: Kubota dealer doesn\'t carry Kubota UDT!

Glad to see all the interest in this subject! FYI - I reached 48.5 hours, had a minute to spare, and went ahead and put in the Case Akcela hydraulic fluid in the transmission of my BX1500 instead of the Super UDT as recommended by Kubota. With a total of 20 minutes on the tractor after the change, I have to say that it is definitely quieter than before! Less noise when I hit the stops with the loader or 3pt. I definitely will pickup the real stuff whenever I'm near another Kubota dealer.

The transmission filter was very hard to remove. After I finally found my strap wrench it came off without much fuss. I had tried everything up to that point.
