Kubota F series

All one has to do is read on this forum that people have had issues with Kubotas.

Machines are made by people, and people aren't perfect, no matter what color the machine is.

Just waiting on a price from Barlows (still) and I'll see if I can swing the F.

The deere was nice and would do most of what I need, but not everything.

Got a price from Barlows, no different than what my local dealership quoted me, which was quite surprising to me.

As a very proud owner of a recently acquired F3680 with 72 inch rear discharge deck, i have come to the conclusion that the oil used in the rear axle/gear cases may not be the most suitable. In the Kubota manual it specifies UDT transmission fluid with gear oil as an alternative.
The UDT may be adequate, but i find it strange that it's purpose is to lubricate the hydrostatics and pump and then be able to do an equally good job in the rear diff and gear cases which gear oil is more suitable for.

As my machine is used i am going to change it to a 80w90 gear oil as i think it is better suited for the application.

I have been researching this topic and find it interesting while browsing through the service/maintainance manuals for John Deere,Toro,Iseki and New Holland front deck mowers, they all specify 80/90 gear oil for their rear diffs and gears.

On the 80W90 in place of hydraulic trans fluid, I was under the impression that was a bad idea and that it could screw up the hydraulics. Can you tell us more about what you learned? I am not aware that Kubota will OK gear oil for a hydraulic system.

If you mean gear oil for the front axle, that would be OK and for that Kubota suggests either hydraulic fluid or gear oil.

Thanks in advance--and you own a great tractor.

Yep, both of my TORO 4WD front deck machines call for 80w90 gear oil in the rear axle.

Sixdogs,

The gear oil is for the rear diff and gear case NOT to be confused with the hydro transmission which uses the UDT,It would be a very bad idea to use gear oil in place of the hydraulic trans fluid and i am certainly not recommending that!!
