As a very proud owner of a recently acquired
F3680 with 72 inch rear discharge deck, i have come to the conclusion that the oil used in the rear axle/gear cases may not be the most suitable. In the Kubota manual it specifies UDT transmission fluid with gear oil as an alternative.
The UDT may be adequate, but i find it strange that it's purpose is to lubricate the hydrostatics and pump and then be able to do an equally good job in the rear diff and gear cases which gear oil is more suitable for.
As my machine is used i am going to change it to a 80w90 gear oil as i think it is better suited for the application.
I have been researching this topic and find it interesting while browsing through the service/maintainance manuals for John Deere,Toro,Iseki and New Holland front deck mowers, they all specify 80/90 gear oil for their rear diffs and gears.
