Buying Advice Kubota for NH woodlands

I think the 3 point stabilizer kit is a telescoping stabilizer setup. Take a look at Stabilworks for an idea of what I mean. My Grand L came with a similar OEM system, standard. I found the turnbuckles on our B Series tractors to be so time consuming I got a set of the Stabilworks aftermarket stabilizers for each of the B's. Makes implement change much, much faster. It will also allow you to push with 3pt implements (within reason) without damaging the turnbuckles.

If you plan on doing lots of box blade, rear blade or rear fork work, consider getting Top-N-Tilt. It transformed my L series into a much more productive machine. It also alows me to use a brush hog to knock down heavy undergrowth in uneven terrain and cramped quarters with much more "surgical" results.

Since this will be for your home away from home, anything you can do to reduce the time it takes you to do a job means you can get more done or go do something else with the limited time you have there.

What about:

Rear Remote Hydraulic Valves
Mounting Base with Valve Kits
  • None
  • 1ST POSITION HYDRAULIC VALVE & LEVER KIT
  • PLUS 2ND POSITION VALVE KIT (CHOICE OF VALVE FOR 2ND POSITION)
  • PLUS 3RD POSITION VALVE KIT (CHOICE OF VALVES FOR 2ND & 3RD POSITION)

You'll need the 1st & 2nd kit for Top-N-Tilt.
Make sure you're sitting down when you price them out.
If you're handy, you can cobble your own set together and save some $ at the expense of a very clean & compact installation.

You want the 3 pt stabilizer kit. I think it added $150 to the price of my L3200, but it is very much worth it as it makes changing implements much easier vs. the standard turnbuckle style stabilizers.

The dealer suggests that the L3200, being heavier and with a higher capacity implements, is a better tractor for woods clearing than the B series. But when I visited the John Deere dealer he had another take. He suggested that after a year or two of cleanup, a machine of that size would be too big and I would be better served by getting a smaller tractor and working it harder.

Bigger is better, in my humble opinion... I bought an L3800 here in Tenn. After a year and a half, I still love the tractor, but I wish I went the next size up (possible to an M class).

Welcome to TBN and central NH.

I'm one who wishes he had bought bigger. The box blade or York rake would be a big plus.

Of course now that I am leaning towards Kubota, the Kioti and Mahindra fans are bbecoming more vocal.....

So after looking around our NH property I'm starting to wonder what I would actually do with a compact tractor.
  • Because we won't be there most of the time we will have to get the driveway plowed anyway.
  • Driveway hasn't been maintained so it's going to need three dump loads of gravel mix: spreading and compacting 60 tons doesn't seem practical.
  • If I get ag tires they will tear up the grass, but turf tires won't cut it in the woods, so I'd need a mower anyway.
  • We could use a perimeter drain and some grading in the back yard but most of the rocks are too big for anything but an excavator of some sort. Just measured up one and it's about a cubic yard - roughly one ton. Buried.
  • I do want to make some trails, but so far the tool I've used the most is the Stihl brush cutter with steel blade, followed by a machete.

It looks to me like an ATV with a dump body might be more practical, or a much smaller tractor with a belly mower. Am I missing something?

Sounds like you are in a similar situation as myself (i.e. lots of woods, need a machine), except I don't have the snow to deal with. A small tractor with belly mower will be fine unless you are contemplating heavy tree clearing work. I have an ATV, but I seriously doubt it will help me grade the road. There are attachments you can buy but they are expensive and I have doubts to how effective a 500-600 lb machine can be.
