I don't blame the OP one bit, there is no way I'd settle for a rebuilt tractor at a new tractors price.
Kubota should either give him back his money, or a new tractor, OP's choice.

Agreed, New is the description, not patched or rebuilt. But comparing old tractors performance to the new equipment? Jy

Wow, I have become so confused in this post. Someone help me get back on track. The OP started having problems with a new tractor that had 10 hours on it, right? The dealer sent a tech out who told him it needed a new transmission and that the hydraulic valves that Kubota used are junk, right? So, he didn't ask for a refund or replacement but decided Kubota makes junk tractors. Now, before it is repaired he is donating it to charity and replacing it with another, what $16 to $20K?, tractor from another manufacture.

Guess I would have handled it in a different way. I do admire the OP's ability to give away a new tractor though.

I have a 20 year old Kubota and have/had several new ones. Honestly, other than the use of more plastics there is no difference in the quality of the machine.
I have looked at deere and others and they use just as much plastic. Every maker makes a lemon now and then . I know because I own every color there is and I have fixed every one.:)

>"If it is still jerky, I will know that you did the best you could, and you can send
the film to Kubota, not that they would have the slightest interest. Fair enough?"

Yeah I know about the giving it away and all but what makes you think or
maybe I should say, assume that they wouldn't care. If it had been my
tractor there would have been a brand new one brought out for keeps.[/quote]
The Kids will be glad it wasn't your tractor.:)

That's not the point I'm trying to make. If we had purchased a tractor with as many problem as the owner claims this one has I'd never settle for that. They would bring a new tractor or there would be legal action. It's absolutely ridiculous to replace the transmission of a new tractor, the dealer should have given the man a new tractor and sent the first one back to Kubota. We had that problem of ours not cranking correctly recently, the dealer didn't even charge us to pickup or bring the tractor back, I even asked if we owed him anything, he said heck no he was just glad it was fixed. That's the difference in a real dealer and one that just sells tractors, he's been selling tractors for as long as I remember, he was selling Kubota's when most people had never heard of them. He knows we'll probably do business again as my wife's operation has 6 tractors.

You have absolutely no idea how much we have donated to various organizations in the past year or so.

1. Alden, sorry your experience with Kubota wasn't stellar.
2. I'm overwhelmed by your gesture to give away a brand new tractor to the school.
3. I'm on my third Kubota and I think the new ones are top drawer. I can't imagine a better-built piece of equipment. Maybe you have a Kubota with plastic on it but I don't think there's any on mine except maybe the instrument panel.
4. To those of you who think the old ones are superior to the new ones, well I just traded in an old one for a new one and there's no comparison. The old one was a good tractor, but the new one is outstanding.

I also have an L3400. Overall I really like the tractor and it has performed up to my expectations with the exception of the 3-pt hitch. It is extremely jerky and there is little I can do to cure it.

At first it was no big deal, especially when using something like a box blade etc. But when using a post hole digger or if I ever need to use a boom it is almost unusable because the jerks are amplified thorugh the length of the boom and shakes the load violently. The PHD is dang near unusable unless you really know what you are doing with the 3-pt.

I find too that the H-M-L is a little hard to shift into/out of but as stated you can give the pedal a push and it usually does the trick. As far as 4WD, I never get out of it so I have no idea.

The other tractor I seriously looked at that was comprable was the JD 3320. It was about $3K more. I'm pretty happy with my Kubota, maybe someday I will try to get the hitch "fixed".

Something seems odd here. How come Alden does not name the school, as requested, so that others might contribute?

Let me first start off by saying what a wonderful gesture you're doing we need more people in the world like you to bring a little happiness to the world. Now just a word of caution after having three years of little issues and some large including replacing the transmission I can honestly tell you whatever brand you're going to buy mechanical failures will occur. What a terrible feeling to own a brand-new piece of equipment knowing it must be service or parts replaced, but you really have to give them the chance to fix it, if you go with an attitude that the next tractor will not have this problem you're kidding yourself. I find that Kubota is probably one of the most reliable well-built tractors in the industry that's a very large statement I know but after observing local farmers and watching my brother's Kubota go and go and talking to a few mechanics who fix all makes and brands I think you're going to be disappointed with other manufacturers fit and finish. Personally I will be buying one more tractor hundred horsepower it was probably going to be a John Deere, however I am seriously leaning towards Kubota after having a few discussions with local farmers and problems with their tractors different manufacturers green, red, blue. Basically the point of this entire biography ;-) anything can have problems it's how the dealer and manufacturer deals with you after the sale. Take care and God bless whatever color you end up with.
