Side note on this guys...I tried out a JD 2032 on Monday. The side-by-side foot controls worked really well. However, the operator station felt somewhat tight.Might look at the 3032e since it is a tad bigger and will also allow on-off access from both sides.I'm really concerned that I will miss the comfort of the heated cab in the winter though.

I guess it's a balancing act, I can no longer operate any of our open station tractors and have moved them all out to another farm my brothers manage.

Lots of choices and compromises in life...I just hope to keep the regret/remorse to a minimum.

OK guys,I thought I would post an update on this.I had planned on selling the B3030 in favor of a JD 3038E.In fact,I had a buyer from CT willing to give me $20,000 for my tractor (which is just about what I paid for it back in 2004!!!).After looking a little closer at the JD I just could not bring myself to doing the deal. There were a lot of things I liked about the JD,the pedal arrangement (of course) and the open station configuration. However, the 3038E is an "economy" tractor and it certainly felt and looked that way. Also the fact that the loader was not readily removable was a huge negative as well as the over abundance of plastic. Not even a fuel guage in the dash. Also, from what I understand, the rear remotes had to be operated up by the loader control!?
Anyhow,I snapped myself out of it.I think I will try to raise the seat on my B3030 a few inches in an attempt to have better foot leverage/control on the treadle.I will see how that works and update this thread for those who are interested. Thanks for following along.-Andy.

Wise move in my opinion.

Wise move in my opinion.

That is what I was thinking as I was snowblowing 8 inches of fresh snow in my t-shirt and slippers last week. :)

Raising the seat may help, I had to stand up or use my right arm to lift my left leg for shifting gears on some motorcycles. On my last geared ATV, I put a hand shifter.

I sure couldn't get by without a cab, my son and I moved tractors from farm to farm last seek in sleet and freezing rain, no need for coats and stayed dry and toasty warm.

Keep us posted.

I've ridden Harleys with right foot shift, my Bultaco and Triumphs also had right foot shift. I traded my Honda for a Bultaco and blew through the first stop sign I hit by down shifting instead of hitting the brake.

I believe they were mandated all left foot shift in 1975. In order to get a "new" 75 Triumph, I had to buy one out of Canada as a used bike because it had a right foot shift; sure wish I still had it.

This is the problem I'm having. For the last 45 years, everything I've driven, other than a couple of British bikes, has had the brake pedal on the right side. The brake is operated with the right foot. Even in your car or pickup, unless you're a two foot, automatic driver. Whenever, and EVERY TIME I back up to something, I engage the brake, just like I've done automatically for 45 years, and shoot forward like a bat outta heck.

EVERY compact tractor I looked at, other then the cheap China imports, are HST drive with the brake on the WRONG SIDE!!!!!!! This is a serious design and safety flaw that I fail to see any reasoning behind.

I sure wish I could have bought something with gears and the pedals where they belong.

Uh....my Kubota - an M59 with HST+ - has the brakes on the right side. I thought they all did. And I thought mine was strange since the Ag tractors I grew up tended to have the right wheel brake on the right side and the left one on the left side....I think.....Frankly I'd have to go look to make sure. Sitting here thinking about my JD, I realize I don't know consciously where the brakes pedals are. Guess that's something my feet know but my head doesn't. I do know that having both brakes on the same side forces the HST control pedal to be in an awkward foot position. That being said, I hardly ever use the brakes unless it's for turning tighter and if I had my choice I'd have one on each side and move the HST pedal that much closer in.

My L45 has the brakes on the right side, and frankly it is STUPID.

In order to use the split brakes I have to cross my left leg over to operate the brakes as my right foot is busy with the HST pedal.
