Kubota HST Side-by-Side Pedal Modification

This makes me appreciate the left hand brakes on my 4410! I was wondering if some linkage couldn't be set up to operate the hst with a knee instead of the foot. Just a u shaped bracket that slips over the knee. Push right for forward and left for reverse. Just another idea for those with limited ankle movement.

I wonder how well it would go over if someone decided to reverse the pedals in your car. Accelerator on the left, brake on the right. Would you still like the arrangement? Or would you rear end the first guy ahead of you that stomps on his brakes? 45 years of pedals being arranged one way, on everything, has a tendency to become habit. Kinda like having the keys on your keyboard in the same place. Reverse them, then try typing. This doesn't apply to one finger typists that never learned how to do it right in the first place..... LOL

I just assumed that most people knew that Deere tractors with hst come from the factory with brake pedals on the left. At first I wondered how it would be in an emergency and I'll admit I was careful but now I don't even think about it. On the 4410 I just automatically use the left foot for my brakes. It makes it really easy to use both the hydrostatic transmission and the steering brakes at the same time. I'm just thankful that Deere engineers did the research and determined that some people are smart enough to train their left leg for a new job. LOL

Some of the Deere models have steering brakes on the left and one single unified brake on the right... Best of both worlds?.
My Kioti has steering brakes on the left, and of course the usual connector to make it into a single brake.. There is a indicator lamp to show when the brakes are in "split" mode. it extinguishes when the brakes are connected.. I never use brakes to to stop, only to hold position to prevent creeping on a hill. If you let off of they hydro pedal the tractor is going to stop.

Guess I'm just stupid then.

I don't believe anyone thinks you are stupid, there are just different preferences in operation. I now love my brakes over on the left side. In my opinion, and this is just an opinion, I would not want them back over on the right. I have used split brakes enough now in the two years I have owned the Kioti, to realize just how convenient it is to use them over there. When you are scraping sheets of ice off of your driveway, you have your right foot on the hydro pedal, and your left foot tapping which ever split brake you need to keep your track straight. Kubota must agree with me now, as the new 60 series has placed the brakes over on the left also.

Others do not agree, but that is OK. Different people see things differently. It is all good!

Well I got the Kubota 5740 with the split brake on the right side that I only touch to apply the parking break then there's a clutch pedal on the left side. I often wondered why in the heck did they put a clutch pedal on a HST machine :confused3: then I started wondering why the brake pedal on the right :dance1:

Last year we bought the 70 series BX25-D with the brake pedal on the left and no clutch and I think they finally got it right so kOua I have to agree with you sir.

I learned something again. I thought Deere was the only one with brakes on the left. I'm glad others are doing the same thing. I was concerned about left side brakes when I bought my tractor but I'm glad it didn't keep me from purchasing it. thirdroc17 if my comments made you feel stupid please accept my apologies. I took your comments in fun and maybe my comments didn't translate the same way.

I don't have a dog in this fight but aren't most riding mowers HST on the right and brakes on the left?

My L45 has the brakes on the right side, and frankly it is STUPID.
In order to use the split brakes I have to cross my left leg over to operate the brakes as my right foot is busy with the HST pedal.

Luckily there's lots of cab space and no tunnel in the way. Raising my seat about 4" also helped. But Kubota could have made the controls much more user friendly.
