Wow I just leave the keys in my tractors....

Used to do that until some drunk (I assume) got his car stuck on the road and walked to my house apparently looking for help while I was gone and hopped in my ranger promptly driving it into my motorcycle and workbench.

If I ever find that guy.

Funny, got a call this morning. New neighbors sold. Municipality won't allow their grow-op.

Good news, they gave me a MF 265, with loader and make shift cab. New owner wasn't interested. Never mind stealing. Between getting it started and trying to open the door to the shed, blocked with snow having fallen off the roof, it's going to be a challenge getting it out of there. But hey, I have the KEY. lol

Very true. I can use our old craftsman mower key to start my JD mower, and father-in-laws JD tractor.

A similar theft of my neighbors car, except the drugie drove the car the couple of miles home and passed out in his front yard. Neighbor spotted her car and called the sheriff.

Got door open with backhoe (and broke a couple of boards) just as new owner, to take posession day after tomorrow shows up. Tell him what my intentions are and he says no way, tractor is in purchase agreement. Good thing he showed up as that would have been a very awkward situation!

My take on it. New owner insisted he had no interest in tractor, just old junk, and no interest in paying for it! But was keenly interested in getting it for nothing and aware of value. Seller thought, guy isn't interested in tractor, so here, take it.

The TRUTH of the matter is that the seller said I could have it, not that I expressed a whole bunch of interest in it. I thought about it, and suggested I take it, fix it up, sell it and split the money.

It did SMART a bit, handing the key I had been given over to the new guy.

Don’t need a key for the MF 265. Open the manual fuel shutoff and then jumper the starter solenoid. Easy peasy.

My key story....In 1968 when I was 15 I bought a '53 Chevy and soon after, lost the keys.

I went to the local Chevy dealer and after telling some guy there my story, he gave me a 3 pound coffee can that was half full of old car keys.

I tried about half of them before I found one that would start the engine and another for the doors and trunk.

I took the can back the next day and the guy that gave it to me was really glad to see me....he got chewed out for giving a kid the can of keys and said he probably would have been fired if I didn't bring it back.

So a few keys for millions of locks has been going on for a long time.
