You consider a 2005 a beater truck??? We are sooooooooooo far apart. I consider my 2000 F250 Powerstroke with 210,000 miles my primary vehicle....... :)

LOL, that's what I was thinking! 2003 F250 is my only vehicle. Not that I would mind being in the other boat...

I tow my l3901 with FEL and box blade behind my 08 half ton Toyota Tundra. The 4.7 v8 has plenty of power and suspension to tow it. That said, I'm just about at the limit of my trailer and I wouldn't ever want to tow anything any heavier without a heavier rated trailer and some stronger rear leaf springs.

Well as stated the V10 in the F350 may be overkill .... however. One day on the way back home towing my tractor this Toyota Tundra decided to pull out in front of me right after I had slowed for a RR track. He intended to gain speed on a wide shoulder then cut in front of me. The Devil made me do it!! I put the pedal to the metal. It took him a long time to gain enough speed to get in front of me but I sure the pucker factor went up. Maybe he will think twice before trying that again.

Sorry to get off topic!! :)

Lol, That's funny. I certainly wouldn't win any races while towing my tractor behind my tundra but why would I want to risk myself and my investments screwing around on the road in the first place. I wish I was in a financially better place to have afforded a 3/4 ton but unfortunately there was two problems with that. Toyota doesn't offer a true 3/4 ton "yet" and I only had the option to finance one vehicle, either a new 2014- 5.7 liter v8 tundra or a tractor. Having just bought a house and finding the want and need to do some heavy landscaping, I chose to make due with my current truck and go for the tractor. That said I'm a 100% Toyota guy through and through for trucks but I wouldn't mind having a nice v10 F350 dump truck to haul, plow and tow with.

Paid $4k for it, so ya. Not a true beater as it's in good shape, just high mileage with a V8 gasser. Would love a diesel, but that almost doubles the price.

I do not believe my story is unique, but like a lot of others here have probably also done, I spent a lot of time as a novice trying to determine what was the best fit for MY needs. Looked at the Ls, MXs, 4045e, Kioti, and others. There are many, many options and it gets confusing trying to compare apples to oranges. I ended up with the MX4800, although came close on several others, but felt for the price it filled every check box. It is a heavier tractor which was a big bonus. So far, although still new, I've had no regrets.

When looking though, one thing to consider on the MX is that the price difference, while negligible compared to the L4701, means you may be getting fewer features. My MX4800 did not come with rear remotes, extendable lower links, or a third function on the FEL. Again, for me, that was not a deal killer, but for others it may be, and although these functions can be added, it is usually more cost-effective to do so when buying new as a package.

Good points and well stated.
I agree with oversized too. Much prefer to get the right options to start with.

Telescopic links and a quick hitch are things I added to both of my tractors when buying the 4520. Most implements I have are compatible with the quick hitch but for the odd implement such as my box blade having the telescopic link is a life saver.
Working by myself hooking up to a 1260lb. box blade with clevis style hitch without the telescopic links was a night mare on my 110tlb. I ordered two sets of the telescopic links when I bought the 4520 and solved that problem.

I have to say I did like the set up for the 3 point lift better on the 4701 than the 4800. I'm sure its an easy fix to add the telescopic links. If I was buying a new tractor as my only tractor I would have probably gone with the MX4800. I already have an M5040 so I thought a little smaller tractor might be a better fit for me and went with the 4701. There are a lot of jobs where a smaller tractor comes in handy.
