If you had to choose, which one would you pick?
And why?

What's the price difference? Are they 2nd or 4wd? Front end loader? How many hours? What do you plan on doing with it?

The m4900 is a utility tractor and the l4150 is a compact utility. The m4900 weighs more, has more hp, more pump flow at the hydraulics, is a cat I/II.. able to lift more.. I could keep on but basically the 4900 is a bigger tractor.

Dewbie,
Oops, kinda left that wide open, didn't I.
4wd,loader, hours seems to vary but looking at less than 2000hr. provide meter is working.
Basically using it as a chore tractor, lots of mowing, post hole digging, fencing, food plots ect.
Possible moving of round bales, just every now and then.
I was wondering does the M4900 have hydraulic shuttle?

Tractordata.com will give you the specs of most all tractors out there. Check it out if you haven't already. Gears are synchronized 8x4 2 range but I believe it's not a hydraulic shuttle. I think I'd pick the m4900 since it looks to be a little bigger of a tractor and its a little newer. Try em both out..one might be more comfortable to you than the other.

I've an M4700, which looks like the predecessor to the M4900

Mowing - Hay? Side of the road? Bush Hog? - not for lawns
Post Hole digging - yup
Food plots - yup
Have not moved any round bales yet.

Potential problem areas - BARELY fits in the garage on the right.

The L4150 is at least 10 years older (1984 - 1990) than the M4900 (2001 - 2008).

They are so similar, makes things a little confusing on which to pursue as far as purchasing.

M4900-2.7L 5cyl, 54hp gross 45hp PTO, weight 3748lbs to 4497lbs.
Gears: 8 forward and 4 reverse
Front tire: 8.3-24
Rear tire: 14.9-28

L4150-2.3L 5cyl, 50hp gross 41hp PTO, weight 3750lbs to 4080lbs.
Hydrualic shuttle
Type: partially synchronized
Gears: 8 forward and reverse
Front tire: 6.50-16
Rear tire: 14.9-28

Other than the M4900 being 10 years newer,4-5hp more,and a little heavier.
Pricing between the two are also similiar.

Funny L4150 is a compact and M4900 is a utility.

I like the idea of the hydraulic shuttle, but like more pto hp.
Brush hogging will be the main thing it will be used for.
Helping my dad mow crp and pasture, and doing some of the things his old 656 can't..

Just trying to determine what might be better.

I think you may be right try them both out, and see which one fits better.
Comfort is a good component to have.

Correct me if I'm wrong..the m4900 has a gear trans vs the l4150 is hydraulic shuttle. If that's the case and I was going to using the loader and switching from forward to reverse all the time I'd probably lean more towards the L otherwise if your going to be mainly in open fields not changing directions all the time I'd lean towards the M.

Between the L and M series I'm going with M. I'm pretty sure the 4900 was produced between 2000and 2005. It's an 8x8 gear transmission.In 2006 that tractor became the 5040.
I bought an M7040 in'06 which prior was the 6800. I also have a M4900SU which is listed as a 2005 tractor.
I think it's a great little machine for what I use it for (small farming). In fact, I'll get on it before the 7040 most days if it's sized for the job.

If moving round bales is on your list of requirements I'm not sure the 6.5-16 fronts on the L would be adequate.

The L4150 is from the 1980's, when Kubota was first breaking into the larger frame compact and utility markets. That series of tractors was widely regarded as rugged, reliable, in many ways over-built. So finding a good one now is something of a score. The later M4900/5700, etc., carried that same concept into the 1990's. Really similar machines; the "compact" vs. "utility" description doesn't mean much. All gets down to which one is in better condition and which you like better.
