Yah, it sure would be a better situation if the pricing was closer to what the manufacturer and the dealer's really need as a return on their investment's.

It's an old refrain --- we need them and they need us --- but I sure wouldn't belly ache if I could get 10% return on all my investments!!

Now, if the dealer wants 10 and the salesman wants 10 and the manufacturer wants 10... well, that makes things hard on the guy lookin' to buy.

Oh believe me. If you want to talk about return on investment being an equipment dealer is about the last place you want to put your money.

OK.... why would anyone want to go in the equipment business in the first place or stay in the business?

What's fair and reasonable? I've got nearly a dozen quotes for tractors and various attachments during the past several weeks.

Same tractor --- the quotes range from just over 4% discount from MSRP to nearly 18%. Another tractor model quoted to me ranges from list (MSRP) to 24% below MSRP.

Ouijba board might be a better tool for the prospective buyer to attempt to honestly try and comprehend what the dealer's and equipment manufacturers expect for a return on their investment...

I guess Kubota thinks our economy is just fine and dandy. $60K with all the toys?

For sure, a full size low hour TLB looks like a bargain.

I think I'll be treating my L39 a little kinder come this years work!

Guys,

What you are all beginning to learn is that you PAY MORE for small size. They actually view their smaller machine as a feature that adds to the 59's value!

They're sticking it to the guy who can't afford a big truck & CDL to pull a full size machine around and THEY KNOW IT!

Take some time to scroll through used tractors and compare HP to price. As HP goes up, the price/HP generally goes down!

I paid low 50's for a loaded Case 580 SuperM 4x4 w/ 1,000 hours, full warranty, full pressurized cab, AC, ride control, pilot controls, extendahoe and quick attach 8' front loader!

the M59 being a commercial use machine needs to have the price compared with other commercial machines of similar capabilities. what comes to mind for me is that to buy a skid steer/mini x of equal capabilities would get pretty expensive as well. also, when you pick the skid and mini x and add their weight you are definitly in cdl territory and towing with a larger truck or making 2 trips. for me when i compare against the combo $55,000 isn't completely out of line. if most of my work took place in areas where a full sized tlb could work that would be a great option. but then we are back shopping for much bigger trucks as mentioned.i am looking forward to seeing the cab model and reading reviews of the M59.
good luck,

Very valid comments Capt, the mini x-skid steer combo is optimum, but as you say expensive and requires 2 trips or 2X the truck size. My market niche is specifically TLB work where my l48s can applish the tasks and versatility a fullsize machine either can as well, or can't do both like yank stumps and mow fields on the same job. I actually run the dual combo set up but use 2 L48s instead of skids (I think they are more versatile and provide MUCH more value per machine dollar than CTLs) and use 1 ton trucks to move my equipment, so it is multiple trips to each job site....never mind all the attachments. Tghe mini-x makes life easier for sure and provides capabilities a wheeled machine cannot provide. I guess my point is, there is a pricing point of diminishing returns for machine dollars invested. With Kubota putting out a machine which is REALLY expensive compared to only incremental improvements over its' upgrade (L48), I feel the return on ones' investment is reduced. Why spend more $ for a machine that is X$s less ...but does the same thing. A TLB can only have so much breakout force and other things like lift capacity before becoming overkill cause most uses don't require that machines high capacity....or become deficient cause a machine only slightly more $ (ie. fullsize 580) will eat it for lunch. Ah well, it certainly has a use and I look forward to maybe owning one, while at the same time I am happy owning the L48 which is about as big (in my needs, work, and opinion) as TLBs can get, both size wise and $ wise, before I start to look for other options. The thought of a cab M59 sounds great, I'd like to see how they solve the BH mounting/cab area issue, I hate plowing snow with open TLBs in the extreme cold. Imagine the cost of the M59 with cab. Yikes!

not that hard, here I have a sewed slot that the sticks come through, the rest of the yellow folds under and actually works quite well

Larry,

That looks great, I may go the same way (do you have heater inside?), spent this morning scraping ice with the L48. So you leave your hoe on for plowing? I put on a rear blade and carry sand in the bucket. Your unit looks nice, my #1 unit has 1200 hours and doesn't look as new as yours. The underside of your hoe boom looks new....you must repaint it after each job!

good luck,

The M59 will cost ~ $10,000 more with a cab! Then you have arrived at the cost of a new Terex 760 ($60,000) with 40 more HP, full cab, pilot controls, 20' dig depth, 7K loader capacity, suspension seat and lots more weight and thicker steel.

A skidder and a mini-ex are machines that can do more work than a 59, though. A mini-ex on tracks will go into tighter places no TLB can go. While one is digging, the other can be loading which cuts job time in 1/2. Yes, you do have to transport 2 machines, but the transport set-up time will be compensated with faster excavation time. Trust me, I see this stuff every week.
