Builder is on the money with the productivity of the minix and skid/TLB combo. I bring both machines to most jobs, and even though I am the only one who drives them (just laborers besides me on the job and they only drive shovels), the effeciency of both machines is unbeatable. Keeping in mind the increased cost of additional machinery of course. I live in NH, and spend ALOT of seat time in a L48 with canopy only year round, and find there are only a couple of days I need or reeeeaaaaallllly want a cab. Otherwise I love mowing all day, digging, and just plain working in an open machine. I find my minix cab get dusty from muddy boots and you can see the dust in the air, no good. Heat is great in the winter, unbeatable. AC makes people lazy unless you are just a dedicated machine operator who doesn't get out. The canapoy is a must have if you spend even a medium amount of time on a machine under the sun/rain/snow. I bet the cab would be about $6-7K more from extrapolating current mini-x and CUT cab upgrade cost. Fullsized machine just wouldn't work for without 3pt. and being a tad bit smaller. First person who gets the M59 will have to invite us all over to have a look.

Larry,

That looks great, I may go the same way (do you have heater inside?), spent this morning scraping ice with the L48. So you leave your hoe on for plowing? I put on a rear blade and carry sand in the bucket. Your unit looks nice, my #1 unit has 1200 hours and doesn't look as new as yours. The underside of your hoe boom looks new....you must repaint it after each job!

I have over 600 hrs, and all but 120 or so are bucket and hoe use. The picture does me justice as If I was closer, you would see many scrapes from roots, rocks etc within the bottom and some on the sides or the dipper/crowd. You are correct in painting as this summer the tractor will be touched up on all sides... I always leave hoe on for plowing as my driveway is uphill.

Not to mention a skid steer can operate lots of accessories, like a ground preparator to finish up once the job is done.

I think the cab will cost more than the typical $6-7 grand of a farm tractor. Why? becuase a backhoe cab is bigger. It needs room for the backhoe controls. It will also require a swivel suspension seat and more HVAC contols for the back windows adding further to cost. ;)

i think the price we are discussing for a machine with cab that isn't even on the manufacturers site yet may not be the final price that is actually paid for it. not sure that made sense but i have checked on L48s and jd 110's and can get either below the manufacturers suggested retail price. i work by myself and enjoy running a B300 bobcat tlb. i run many skid steer attachments off the front and rear of it. i believe there is room for many diffrent types of equipment in the game. whatever works for you. i am glad to see kubota coming out with the M59 because of the cab. as far as price and whether its a bargain i will wait and see what the local dealer tells me i can get it for before saying if it is a bargain or not. i know at some point i will have to replace the B300 and the M59 is the first machine to spark an interest for me. it would be nice to run skid steer attachments off the front and 3 point on the back as well as tlb functions. we'll see what the future brings.
good luck,

Don't be surprised if you see one of the full size TLB companies build a 60-ish HP lighter-weight full size machine. It might be a reincarnation of the JCB 210-212S. Might articulate in the middle and crab steer, too. ;)

These TLB's are nothing new, New Holland was building them in the 80's...way ahead of their time. Ingersoll rand built them, but their marketing stunk.

Last year CASE sent me a $20 Check for my input on a focus group survey on a 12,000 LB 65 HP machine.

I wonder what they are up to? Without cab, I gathered it would be $50 K
with 3 Pt available.

The JD210 is still offered. Capt., how do you like the B300? I looked at it but I thought the tires where too small for most of my mowing and farm related needs. Looks very versatile.

But it's a heavier machine now with more HP. The Bobcat, Earthforce, IR machines were definately ground breaking designs.

This JCB can do more than a M59 and leave the buyer enough money to buy a 4x4 farm tractor for 3pt work.

I've been digging thru all the forums for several weeks now, and have read alot of discussion about the pros and cons of the big-iron and the small TLB's.

It seems just as plain as the nose on my face that the $dollar/Hp equation for the small TLB's is "bad math"! And it looks like the equation might even be worse in the short term with the slow-down in the building trades and all the bigger stuff on the market...

But try as I might --- I just can't get around the idea that the big-iron ain't never gonna won't fit my barn and corral and would be a danger to the house and all my building's when I gotta clear snow. And I gotta have that 3pt, too! Tiller, rake, mower and helping with hay work every summer. And sure as the sun comes up; I can't afford to buy a bigger truck and trailer to move the TLB from point A to B!!

So.... I'm lookin' pretty hard at the used L48's and 110's. And expectin' to pay a premium if I end up buyin' new! (It's the AMERICAN way and just doin' my part for the economy.)

AKfish

(Oh yah, I think the current version of the 210 is hoe-less. Positioned as a "land-scape" tractor.)
