John Deere 970, Kubota M7060
My Kubota M7060 is coming up on the end of warranty on June 2021. If I can extend the warranty I certainly will. If I have the money. I'm curious to know what kind of breakdowns other owners have experienced. I own a 970 John Deere and two problems repeated themselves more frequent than I cared. Four-wheel drive shaft connection point at the front axle. Had to replace end of shaft cup , ball bearings and front differential cup receiver several times. Also front steering arm ball joints would wear out and replacement of whole steering cylinder was needed 4 times. So please share your M7060 problems. I'm not to confident of the shuttle shifting tranny lasting . I have not experienced any breakdowns yet but sometimes it just does not feel very smooth. Thanks in advance.

I've bought my Kubota M6040 - brand new in 2009. It has hydraulic shuttle shift. Not a moments problem with the shuttle shift or anything else on the tractor. I would suggest - forget about potential problems and just enjoy that new tractor.

Two and a half years and 400+ hours on my M7060HDC12. Not one single problem to report....other than I'm always looking for a reason to get in it and do something with it! Great machine!

Thank you Deserteagle . Good to hear such good reliability of the Kubota m7060. I just passed the 2000 hr mark a week ago..

I own a '11 M7040 that has 1600+ hrs with no problems. The hyd shuttle has handled several 1000 rd bales with ""no problems"" rearing their ugly head. Only complaint I have is high/low speed selector handle on trans has been difficult to shift even with liberal lubrication of linkage.

As of 1200 hours, my 2013 M7040 has had no issues, except when I picked up a piece of root with the right rear tire and it caught the cables where they go into the box for the loader controls. Bent both cable ends, and when straightening them, broke one. I replaced both cables for about 125 dollars.

Thank you Tx Jim. Good to hear 7040s are doing great. I hope this 7060 does as well. In shifting the shuttle shifter do you use the clutch ? I don't. If I change gears I just put the shifter in nuetral , change gear and go. Do you work your tractor the same ?

Thank you Sandman . Read my response to txjim please. Do you just shift back and forth with out the use of the clutch too ? I'm not having tranny problems. I'm just curious if I'm abusing the tranny.

I bought my M7040 with cab, hydraulic shuttle 4wd about 12 years ago. I sold it about 5 years ago, so in ~7years of use (baling hay, shuttling dirt from grading foundations, running a Harley rake, carrying pallets of block, bags of mortar, etc) it never failed me.
I would say it might be one of the most simple, reliable tractors I ever owned. Just change the filters as recommended, keep the fittings greased and run quality fuel and oils in it and itll run a long, long time.

I utilize foot operated clutch pedal in tight surroundings such as loading/unloading/stacking rd bales. In all other uses I merely lower engine rpm's to idle speed utilizing foot acceleration pedal & shift hyd shuttle hand control.

Thank you TxJim, I guess I'm not abusing my tranny.

Good Day all,
I tried to find a more direct post for this question and this is what I could find.
I just came from a test drive on a M7040 with about 1800hrs. It is 4x4, has the hydraulic shuttle & FEL, open station, not filled tires. I really liked the tractor, BUT I noticed that when engaging the shuttle forward or reverse (did not appear to make a difference which gear) there appears to be a little time delay and hesitation before it starts to move. The outside temp was about zero Celsius (Dealer lot outside) I did step on the individual brakes and the other wheel did dig in. I am wondering if this is early clutch wear symptoms? After talking to a local Kubota tractor owner who also had the same problem on the next size up tractor, ( he decided to get rid of it - his first Kubota - traded it in)
Any Bota advice is appreciated. (looking to get a tractor of this size)

Cold ambient temps and cold oil will delay clutch fill times. Any troubleshooting or diagnostic work on any type of hydrostatic transmission or transmission using hydraulic clutch packs needs to be done with the oil at operating temperature. Usually 50-60 degrees C.

I do agree with you, but my neighbor who was the owner of one the next size up had the same problem during the summer? He had the dealer come out and look at it. They checked the pressures which were ok, and was advised the tractor needed to be split open to investigate? That is when he decided to deal it.

Well then that's different than jumping on a cold tractor and observing sluggish clutch engagement.

Electronically controlled clutch packs adjust fill times based on parameters including temps. But then you get to buy and maintain electronic control systems. Manual control of clutch packs relies on orfices to control clutch fill times. Thicker oil passes more slowly creating longer fill times than the same tractor would exhibit at operating temps.

It might have the older fluid in it. they moved to synthetic now. The FEL valves hang low and are easily damaged. I'm adding grill guard and skid plate after KTAC had to pay a $2300 bill to replace the 3rd function valve

I have 2 of them. Perfectly normal as the wet pack travelling clutch has to pressurize. On fact I prefer it, much less driveline shock.
