kubota models m vs mx

Well, if it had an idiot light and IF you were like me, you'd be wishing the idiot light flashed in order to draw the absent-minded operator's attention to it. Yes, my tractor has an idiot light for the parking brake and I've STILL managed to drive it with the parking brake engaged. :ashamed: :duh:
it's surprising how even a large red flashing light can be missed. We put one on our combines at one time due to the number of customers burning machines by driving with the parking brake engaged. We are talking tail light size flashing light. Me arresting asked us to review the new advertising video they created for the next year's model introduction. One scene showed a combine cutting directly at the cameraman with this large brake light flashing, very obvious, and embarrassing, to us engineers. Next came the parking brake interlock. Insurance companies were coming after us. After the fire problem became known they would in turn sue us to recover damages for every claim. All settled out of court and safety recall implemented. Interlock or audible alarm really needed. The blinking light on my L5740 is for decoration only. The alarm on the M135GX is an attention getter. The park position on our John Deeres is my favorite.

The MX's are really good value tractors, not perfect, but for the price a true useful utility tractor. Dollar for dollar it is probably the best value small tractor I have ever owned.

i would totally agree having owned one myself (5000) should i want to spend more on machinery, i'm glad i went the M route rather than Grand L consumers are fortunate to have so much available in K's line....it's just about matching needs/budget to the right machine. forums like this are great for that

I totally agree. I also believe in the Utility and CUT tractors the range of use is much broader than say a 300HP 4X4 AG Tractor. So it takes a lot of models that are very similar to fill all the gaps. For example, I'm a bells and whistles guy, if I'm spending the money I want the comforts and ease of use. Other members on TBN could care less about that and simply look at weight/HP.

I am really glad I asked the question concerning M vs MX. There is even more to it than I thought. I have learned much from the responses to this thread. The over lap between all these models in the 35HP to 55 or so is still dizzying but I am now much better able to jump on a deal if I find it.

It is confusing, I grew up on a farm and thought I knew a little about tractors until I started looking to buy a new one several years ago, man I was lost; still don't know all I should.

Yeah, bad enough if you are set on one color. If you are color blind then it gets very, very confusing!!!

I'm not sure tha answer to "what's the difference between a M and a MX" was addressed. I believe the consencus is the MX is cheaper than the M. Is the MX a price cutter tractor and the M a better built tractor?

Some years ago Kubota MXs were described two ways:

MX is a de-accessorized Grand L, priced to sell at a utility tractor competitive price, rather than a de luxe price.

MX is an 'L' in front and an 'M' in the rear.

Gives you some idea -------

L's are small to mid-size. MX's mid-size. M's are the next heavier Kubota tractor category.

All Kubotas are built the same: GUD.
