Kubota MX5000

I'm not familiar with your 7' mower, Mike. If it's heavy duty and 3 pt. mounted you might want to ask the dealer if the MX5000 has enough weight to handle it when the FEL is off. As someone pointed out, the MX5000 is a bit light for its power. It would be a bit of a pain to have to mount a few hundred pounds of weight up front every time you wanted to mow with the FEL off.

My L4300 is light for its power as well and the medium duty Woods BB720 I mow with is almost too much for it with the FEL off. Normally I either mow with a heavier Ag tractor...or leave the FEL on.

Mike,

I am in Franklin. I have looked for Kioti Dealers in Mid TN, and they seem to be pretty scarce. (Best I can tell, you have to go to southern KY - 75/80 miles, there is another closer, but they aren't exactly a "full service dealer") I like what I have read about the DK45S, but for me this falls under the dealer support question I mentioned earlier.

Rich,
I found a Kioti dealer in Lawtey, FL, 22 mi south of where I live now. I'm going to try and visit them this week. I tried to get to the Deere dealership before noon, when they closed Saturday, but couldn't make it. I'm curious if I purchase a tractor in FL, will a dealer in TN honor warranties/service commitments?

I also have about a million questions for the group, if you will be so kind.

I noticed in the literature that the MX5000 has a bunch of those "antifreeze" weights up front with the cutter attached. The MX5000 is about 400 lbs. lighter than the Mahindra 4110. Is this an advantage, to be able to add/subtract weight without the FEL attached?

Another question that I have, is the bevel gear on the front axle of the Kubota's an advantage over the U joint type? I know Kubota hypes it.

Also, is the drive shaft buried in the oil sump an advantage? I noticed that the MX5000 and the Kioti DK45 both have that feature.

If I think of anything else, I will ask later. Sorry for the "20 questions" bit, but if you don't ask...

DONT KNOW IF THIS WILL HELP, BUT I BOUGHT A M4800 WITH A 1001 LOADER AND a six foot box blade , four wheel drive for 22600. I thought the 4800 was a heavier tractor and had more 3 pt lift, also you can get a bigger loader. You might take a look at them,,,
good luck

Mike,
I am not very far from were you are but I bought my L4400 at Batten Tractor in Douglas, GA. They beat any price I could find in Jacksonville. If you decide to call them talk to Vance.

Mike,

The Kubota dealer near me quoted an L4630 w/FEL with foam filled wheels. They seemed to indicate that a 7' cutter should be no problem with this setup. (specs show 3470#'s w/out FEL) There are several discussions on weight throughout the TBN site. For me weight is not a major issue. I want to be able to cut lawn with a finish mower, so too much weight could be a problem as would too little. And even though most of the CUTs have quick attach FELs, I take it that many on this board bushhog with the FEL on. It would be my guess that the literature shows the suitcase weights b/c they are trying to help the dealer sell "add-ons".

Thanks guys,

I just got back from the Kubota/Deere dealer here in JAX, and I think I'm just about sold on the M4800. I got to drive that around today, and REALLY like it. It sits a bit higher than the MX5000, has more ground clearance, and will operate a heavier FEL. The sales guy was quite honest I thought, when he told me that I would pay more for a comparable JD tractor in any category than I would for the Kubota, and that the Kubota is a better tractor for the money. He sells both so I can't see what his advantage would be to say this if he just wants $$$.

Thanks for the tip about Douglas GA, I'll have to check it out. I'll be heading up that way next month so it should make a good side trip.

I was wondering about the weights because I may have to remove the FEL to maneuver through timber, and keeping the FEL might be a problem. Don't know, as I've never tried it. What do ya'll think?

I'm going to pay a visit to the Kioti dealer in Lawtey this week as well, just to give them all an equal try. Thanks for all the input. Keep it coming.

Mike,
I checked that same dealer you went to and the one here in Maclenny and I saved a good amount by going up to Batten Tractor. You can also try Gordon Tractor in Live Oak. Talk to Daniel and he is usually pretty fair, I found everyone around Jax to be way over priced.

FL4400,
Thanks for the tips, I will definitely check it out. The dealer in TN was willing to do the MX5000 with 702 FEL and 7' Bushhog for $24,435, so I think he'll stay within a few hundred dollars of that for an M4800. But I'm still going to check out the others. I figure any Kubota dealer will honor warranty work, so if I purchase in FL and the tractor ends up residing in TN next year I should be OK.

mtm1930,
Thanks for the vote of confidence, it is always good to hear one's impressions reinforced by actual users/owners. While I was in the dealership yesterday, a fellow came in to pick up the tractor with which I was playing, er, I mean testing. He was picking up the M4800 for a client who had ordered it, and transferring it into his dealership. His company sold both NH and Kubota, and he was wearing a NH uniform shirt. He told me that I should go with the Kubota as well, and in particular the M4800. He said they are the best tractor in the category out there, and his company will probably drop NH next year. Reassuring, to say the least.

Later that day...

Just got back from the Kioti dealership. Nice tractors, but not as nice as the Kubota. Looked at the DK35 and the DK55. The 35 was too small, the 55 was nice, but it had two features that turned me off. One was the turbocharger, and the other is the electronic shift to 4WD. It's bad enough having to put up with a truck that has it, but a tractor? Come on! What do you do when it fails? He didn't have the DK45 or DK50 in stock. They were also VERY expensive. I don't know about you, but when I can get a Kubota for less money than a Kioti, and that's comparing MSRP on the Kubota vs. dealer quote on the Kioti, I don't know if the Kioti is worth it. I was given the MSRP for the Kioti DK45 as $26601 w/FEL and bucket, and $30901 for the DK55 with FEL and bucket. The dealer said he would let me have the DK45 for $22610 w/FEL and bucket and the DK55 for $25866 with same. I think you can get an M4800 with same for a heckuva lot less than that! Am I AFU here? Both the MX5000 and the M48 have 50 HP from a normally aspirated engine and 44HP at the PTO. The Kioti has 55 HP from a turbocharged motor, and 45 HP at the PTO. Not much difference, and the complication of a turbo to boot. Maybe I'm wrong. I didn't bother to drive one around, because at those prices it would have been a waste of his time and mine. What do you guys think?
