Looks like the 5140 as well as 5040 are turbocharged from their website unless I missed something; didn't check the M59.

If you order a new one that is not in stock yet it will most likely be turbocharged. I tried to spec one on the Kubota website and it does not give the engine specifications. It defualts to the 3240 in the L series. Odd, I thought, so I checked it out and built it online. It states the engine is turbocharged. If you want a normally aspirated one, L5040 or L5240 check with your dealer. Odds are they can find you one that isn't turbo or they can get you one from another dealer. You might be able to get a deal on one as they have changed the series.

Yeah, I was surprised, but seemed to remember someone posting that they were using the X5100 engine in the M5140 and had dropped the M5040. I was thinking of buying a non turbo unit, but when I checked they had gone to turbos on new production; don't know if it was related to streamlining, prep for Tier IV or what.

This was before we bought our M8540 and I was a little apprehensive about turbo units, now I see my concerns were unfounded.

We have a couple of old turbo IH tractors down in our barn that our renters own, but don't use anymore, so I thought they were probably reliable, I had just heard stuff about extended cool down times and maybe additional maintenance. None of that has been an issue and running a turbo unit islittle different than anything else or so it seems so far.

Especially when in an OEM application. Hot rodding is a whole other story just like hot rodding any other engine part. But in factory applications one of the most dependable engine parts that there is. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Where I work all the trucks that run on diesel are turbo, dozers as well. The trucks are abused on a regular basis and have many miles on them. The turbos seem to be one of the most reliable components of the engine.

M5040 Has Turbo as said before can really tell the difference when you get the shredder in some thick stuff,having the turbo.
