could they have been running a free FEL? anyway i dunno. but when i was shopping the cheapest was the LS at 225xx and the most expensive was the JD at 293xx. the LS didn't make the final list.

To a certain extent prices are regional of course; if you're looking at comparing apples to apples, without discount programs, there are differences that far exceed $2K-$3K on comparable HP tractors. I shopped for nearly two years and found significant differences in prices. That said, nothing wrong with shopping by discount programs either.

I would think not, since you bought a machine that's a step up in size. You'd have to jump up to a U5030 with the LL5102 FEL to compare similar machines.

i was looking at the 50ish HP compacts and utilities. all the compacts were smaller than the compact i currently had (except for the mahindra 5035 and the JD 4720), so i moved up to utility szied, for the LS i looked at the 5020 with a LL5101 it also didn't make the final list.

I think you've made it perfectly clear that you're not fond of LS, but the 5020 is also less powerful, and quite a bit lighter (1,000lbs) than the tractor you did buy….again, not really a direct comparison. Not that any of this helps the OP...

My Massey has Cat 1/2 links, and can lift 3,100lbs at the ball ends, so I could use Cat 2 implements, but I'm not sure it qualifies as a Utility sized machine (4,100lbs).
