0% interest is a scam. It’s built into the price virtually all the time
Too bad that is so easy to see as false. Prices are easy to compare. I can get zero percent loans without even using a dealership. Some 0% deals are misleading.. Those are the either or deals...Best thing to do is get pre approved for financing so you know you can pay cash. Then, it is all up to your negotiating skills. They want good credit customers to keep their portfolio in balance. Play hardball with nice words and knowledge of the business and you get the lower price AND the zero percent.

Hmm... FWIW, this study done in 1982, says the Ford 1000 series tractors were built by Shibauru. At that time the Japanese compact tractor industry had several major players - all making their own diesel engines. Yanmar lead the world in large ship diesels. View attachment 715548
Cool! Where did you find this Scotty?

When I was referring to the 1000 series Fords I was referring to the 2000, 3000, 4000 that was introduced back in the mid 60's.

You can do the same with cars, trucks, & machine tools too.

I'm not sure why, but we all know it's true. All it takes is will.

Economically I don't understand what happens in the future when today anyone can buy a used machine that can be repaired to be better than new for so little total cost.
I can explain this. Depending on where you live, some towns do not have independent repair shops that will fix old tractors or if they do it's a 6 month to 1 year waiting list to even get it in their shop to be looked at. I know a guy down in Jemison, Alabama that does this kind of work and last time I spoke with him he had 40 tractors waiting to just be looked at not counting the ones he already had in his shop.

I have definitely worked 0% interest deals. Not the either -or ones where you pay up front. Good credit and knowledge of the world of finance has served me well in that regard.

Leasing is a big scam about 90% of the time. But, to each his or her own.
I would like to know what tractor dealers you have "negotiated" with on zero percent financing. What I have personally found is they give about a $1500-$2,000 discount off MSRP and then finance the rest. The cash offer has always shown to be significantly less then the 0% finance offer.

Because it's not zero percent. The interest is built into the price.
With the lack of supply currently on big ticket items, there’s very little negotiation to be made. If the 0% is built in, they’re getting it on both ends.
Not sure if it was you earlier speaking of large farms and leasing equipment, we have folks in Morgan county that have farmed for generations now. They started using GPS guided tracked farm equipment. I couldn’t tell you much about their operation but they harvest through most of the year, multiple crops.

Negotiate the cash price first. They want the extra money they get for financing you. Once you have a firm out the door price, suggest you would be willing to do that price with 0%. It may be tougher this year than usual. If you don't have a good understanding of the vehicle finance business, I'm sorry. I've been on the other side. They will finance people like me almost every time at zero percent because they can then afford to take more risks on someone with marginal credit. I've negotiated for friends buying tractors and for myself buying cars. The dealer is not really financing you. It is the bank. Even when KCC does the paperwork, they do not often keep the risk. They bundle it and sell it. Sometimes they service it themselves even after they sold the risk. Other times they dump the whole thing and you get a new lender. The secondary market is where the money is made.

The cash price discount isn’t a huge amount; usually $1500 on a $35k tractor.

I ended up buying used but l looked at buying a new Kubota CTL. The dealer wouldn’t change the machine price if I paid them or if I financed. But there was about $3000 in loan and paperwork fees if I financed.
