I never knew it was 50%. wow. I guess Deere has the second most and everyone else is bringing up the rear.

Deere has 20% of compact tractor market in USA.

~~Twenty-five other brands battle for the 30% market share remaining. I speculate Massey-Ferguson is #3 after Kubota and Deere. I will wildly speculate Kioti follows Massey-Ferguson.

This is subcompact + compact tractor categories only.

What defines subcompact and compact?

I rarely used the tilt function on my last tractor. My current tractor has a pedal you tap with your toe. I usually tilt the steering wheel forward when exiting the tractor. It make exit and entrance much easier. The tilt design on the Kubota Grand L is well thought out.

Dad's JD1070 is not HSt and has the loader lever on the fender. That is all I knew of tractor layout when I decided I wanted a Kubota for mowing and snowblowing. I started looking at the BX's and noticed the loader lever not on the fender and the HST pedal. Didn't feel right. However now that I own a BX2230, I feel comfortable with it. Looking for a backhoe I bought the B26TLB and the loader lever is back on the fender. So back to the beginning kind of. I have gotten used to both set ups. Also the B26TLB has a tilt wheel that only gets pushed forward is to remind me I have set the parking brake. I have driven off with it being set. Jon

i just ordered an MX5400 which will be my fourth tractor. The first was a 8N, second a Kubota l3170 and my lastest a NH TC35D.

Both the 3710 and NN have tilt steering wheels
The NH has the loader joystick on the fender not on the loader.
The NH has two pedals for the hydro transmission

Why does Kubota still have the antiquated rocker pedal for HST units? I didn't buy a HST unit this time due to that.
Why does Kubota not put tilt steering on all models. On the MX 5400 you can get it with a cab but not without the cab. Makes no sense to me.
Why do they put the joystick on the fender on some models and not on all?
Some of the larger MX4800 does not come with extendable lift arms but the 5400 does.

Is Kubota behind the times or what drives these crazy decisions???

HST controls is one of those religious debates. Everybody has their own preferences & can live equally well with their own ideology. I prefer the single treadle myself. I'm sure that's mostly because that's what I started with, I'm under no delusion I wouldn't be double pedal fan boy if I'd started out on a JD.

The MX & economy Ls are economy machines. If you want fancy machine features you need to shell out the cash for a Grand L or a M. I got my Grand L4060hstc for the cab, along with the bells & whistles upgrading from an economy L3200.

The joystick on the fender is more complex. Usually cables to go the valve, more complex hose routing, etc. Another economy model vs premium model thing.

Same with the extendable links on economy Ls vs Grand Ls. Not sure why some of the MXes have & others don't. I'm guessing it might be something to do with CAT1 vs CAT2 hitches & expected impliment size.

I don't give a dammm about a tilt wheel, but it sure pizz me off that so much aluminum is used where it could be better, like in the hydraulic pumps!

Example: I have a Kubota right now that the aluminum pump is wore out with 700 hrs on it, and it's older so no warr.. The pump is something close to 800 bucks! The fluid has always been kept changed, and no remotes to contaminate that fluid. There's no excuse for cheapoing something like a pump!

I'm seriously thinking of putting my pto generator on it and use the tractor for a stationary power supply, no hydraulics needed!

You must have beat the heck out of it... I have 2 M's and the one has 2000 hours and the other 4000 hours and both pumps (and everything else) is just fine. I farm with them btw.

I do not like the two peddle design for the HST. I prefer the Kubota design. My wide feet hits both peddles, so I prefer the single peddle.

Thank you. I think you have finally answered the question of why the rocker design instead of the two pedals.
The rocker may/may not be the design that everyone prefers, but one thing is for sure. With the rocker you CANNOT hit Forward & Reverse at the same time. And maybe that's the point.
