Freaky!! Yeah that is a good word for it. Sure wish they had a camera to record that, it is unbelievable how that could have happened. I park there all the time and I tell you, from where she parked, you can barely make that turn if you start out with the steering wheel turned to far right. The RTV isn't known for a tight turning radius. The only way for it to have made that turn was for it to back up and it is just a bit of slight rise to the back, almost level east to west but a good 5 feet drop toward the pond.
It is just freakish how it happened.
So far no damage to anything other than fuel gauge and of course the waterlogged seat but that is drying.
I think I will run it a bit and then change the engine oil again since it was completely filled with water.

I forgot to mention in earlier post that when I raised the dump bed to start the restoration, I found the funnel still stuck in the oil filler hole. I had just added about a half quart of oil a couple days before and forgetful me, left the funnel stuck in the fill hole and lost the oil fill cap. That is why the engine completely filled with water.
I guess I need to get a red flag and put on the key similar to the way aircraft have control locks to remind me to remove/replace something. I have several times forgot to replace the fuel cap on my lawnmower till after I have mowed several minutes with it. Sure hope it is just old age short term memory loss and not beginning of Alzheimer's .

When I first started reading this thread I thought that she had gone through the ice while riding back across the lake; a not uncommon occurrence up this way. I guess that you don't have that problem though.
Nope, rarely does the pond freeze over and then only enough to support the geese walking on it. Lots of fun watching them come in for a landing on the frozen pond.

For the seat full of water.

On the snowmobiles we would throw a board on it and below it to support the framing then drive over it with the truck going really really slow to not blow out the seat from pressure of the water coming out. It worked well and got most of it out. The seats started off around 50lbs. then about 1/4 that after driving over it a couple times.

I thought about doing that but I am afraid that it would break the plywood, damage the cover or something else. It works as is, so I think to leave well enough alone.

Well to put closure on this, the engine cranks and runs fine now. Everything but the fuel gauge still worked, new one is supposed to be in today but I think I will wait till tomorrow to go get it due to the freezing rain and sleet that we had last night and this morning which coated the road way pretty nicely. It has finally warmed above freezing at 12 noon.
Anyway, thanks all for your inputs and advices. Sure hope I dont have to go thru that again.

Thanks for starting the thread. Someone, someday will have a similar situation and hopefully search your thread. Good stuff here.

For underwater use, I think you might be confusing a funnnel for a snorkel.

Good deal Gary  . . . set the darn brake! ;)

My 14 y.o. grand daughter used my RTV to run over to the neighbors, about 1/4 mi. away and when she got back she said "Grandpa something smells bad and it had a hard time coming up the driveway". She forgot to release the brake, sometimes you can't win.
